I'm kinda scared to post this. As a noob, you guys may flame hell out of me for even bringing it up.

But I have to ask, other than the Harley name, mystique and brotherhood that goes with it (and VRSC owners are kinda the black sheep there anyway), what's the real advantage of a VRSC over a Suzuki M109? They even now offer the C109 for the bagger set. They run with the VRSC and they cost less.

So why go Harley?

Because when people ask you what kinda bike do you have - "I have a HARLEY" just seems to have a better ring to it.

Actually that's what Harley would like you to believe, but I for one could care less. If the M109 were a better all around bike I would have no problem riding it, but the fact is that it's not. Plus it's butt ugly. IMHO

i have riden both, and i would choose the vrod 10 times over the m109

like was said..the m109 is a pretty nice bike but it definitely isnt a vrod

By the way, that shows you haven't spent a lot of time around here - you won't get flamed if you are serious. We may be blacksheep, but take a good look at this forum, even in the dark corners; you'll be hard pressed to find these kind of people anywhere else.

M109 is a battleship rather than a Fast Frigate.
My big knock on the Jap bikes is the parts availability after 10 years.
Why buy an imitation when you can have the real thing.
Honestly though, forget the cost difference, ride both then decide for yourself. You're the one forking out the cash and riding her, you have to be happy.

Yeah, it does, but that costs. Is the name worth it?
NO. I always say "Its a Vrod" and while looking at it they realize its a Harley since it sez it. Than when they ask "Its a HArley?" I say "Not only that, but the Most Hated Harley Out there".

The M109 is top heavy compared to the VROD. Not a bad bike. Doesn't look as cool. Has a huge looking tank and ugly headlight. I have a friend who has one and it is a bit hard for him to handle.

You should see if you can find a copy of Cycle World from February 2007. They did a comparison of these two bikes and the Victory Hammer S. I think it's a pretty unbiased review, and they liked the Harley best.

Better fit and finish, less cheap plastic trim bits, an engine perfectly suited to the chassis, etc. They also mentioned that the Suzuki is a bear to ride at steady cruising speeds due to a combination of light throttle action, light flywheel wieght and reverse-torque reaction from the shaft drive.

In that test, the HD and Suzuki ran almost identical performance. They were testing the 1130 model, not the 1250. Probably not much difference, but I have to think the bigger motor offers some gains.

All that said, for the money, I think it's probably a decent bike. Just not for me. Good luck to you.

That's the main reason I bought a 2nd vrod, that it was bottom heavy. I love that, it just feels so stable.
