I’ve been riding for about 12 years and have always owned Jap bikes until the V-rod. I’ve never had an occasion to bother Harley people and they have always left me alone, until now. I rode my favorite ride up hwy 12 to a lodge for lunch yesterday. Don’t know if there was an organized ride or not but the Harley people (air heads) were out in droves. Was getting ready to leave when 6 guys came up and wanted to know if that was my V-rod. After explaining that it was one person wanted to know if I realized what I had there or if I was just trying to prove something. In response I politely inquired if he realized what he DIDN’T have there, and if so, there are other V-rods available. Left there stopped on top of the pass and sure enough another bad ass Harley rider approached and wanted to know whose V-rod that was. Explained it was mine with a little attitude this time. He wanted know why someone hadn’t explained to me yet that it was time to grow up and get a real Harley.

Thought when I decided on the V-rod it would be my Jap bike friends who would give me the most trouble. Turns out they really like my bike and can’t say enough good things about it. I knew Harley people didn't like this bike but never realized it would be like a damn red flag.

it happens.. they either love it or hate it.. personally i love hearing these stories and usually once a month one appears.. only thing lacking is you doing a rolling burnout out the parking lot and giving em the bird.. ride safe man..

Why are ppl in general so against the V-Rods? I'm not a violent person but would think if someone that I did not know tracked me down just to rag on me about my car or bike then all bets would be off as far as being cordial.

I guess when I fianlly make it to the local bike night gathering things are going to be interesting....

This argument has been going on since HD 1st started changing engines.
Panhead guys didn't like the Shovelhead, Shovelhead guys didn't like the Evos and the same for the Twin Cam. It's nothing new we are just the new guys on the block. Wait till HD changes the Twin cams and then they will catch hell. :D

I was leaving out the other day and this old man can up and ask me why I put HD emblems on a jap bike. I took my helmet off and ask him if the Dyna and Sportster were HD bikes. He said Yes and I explained that the Vrod was built in the same place, he said he didn't know that. I ask him if there was anything else I could teach him about HD's.

My buddys horse laugh the guy, I tried to keep a straight face put my helmet on and left.

Just carry your side-arm when you ride... I have never had anyone walk up to me and rag on my bike. Maybe its the Glock on my waist... :D
That's what's so strange, neither have I. These people have always left me alone. Look of contempt exchanged for each others bike but that was it. Christ if they start this shit when my husband and our Jap biker friends are around it's not going to be pretty.

I had a guy make a comment to me about stepping up to a real Harley a few weeks ago to which I replied that I really wanted one, but the dealer wouldn't sell it to me w/ out an AARP card. He didn't think it was nearly as funny as I did.

That being said, for the most party, I get nothing but compliments from Harley and non-Harley riders.

Now thats good, I'll have to remember that one. :)

I have never had any encounter like that. 3 years and 30k miles. Maybe the attitude of the rider has a part in it?

Well, both times I was walking toward my bike not paying attention to anyone. Really surpised me because I've never had problems with anyone before. Oh well, nothing I can't live with, just unexpected is all.

I've only had similar interactions on the rare occasion, twice that I can think of. The majority of the "air-heads" I've encountered have been polite and such, and we've had some great discussions about bikes and the VROD. I can only remember two all out ass-hats giving me $hit about my choice in Harleys. One ended with a long night of drinking and semi-kindhearted ribbing of each other, the second didn't end quite so well.
We all chose the bikes we did for a reason and you have no obligation to explain to the less intelligent the reasons for your choice(s).
I welcome discussions but don't approach me with the "it's not a real Harley" montra and expect me to give you ANY respect. The majority of HD riders I've encountered have been decent folks, so I don't allow the few asshats out there determine my attitude towards HD riders.

Never had any issues on my 2006D. Most folks either give me the ol' thumbs up or just a bewildered stare until the light turns green. One of the new riders in our group asked if it was a Harley, but I couldn't blame her since it looks nothing like her white and chrome Deuce. Maybe I should have left a couple of Harley logos on it.
