This might sound like a stupid question but here goes, what is the range of a V Rod on a tank of gas.I am looking at a 2006 and am a little concerned about the small tank.I have always wanted a Harley and this would be my first one so any help would be appreciated.

common average mpg is between 30 to 40. (48 to 64 kpg) depends on your riding habits and type of exhaust/tuner set up.
There is an aftermarket 5gal tank available for the '06 and earlier years by Rick's.

fuel range is NOT far enough. i don't know how far the small tanks can go but, the 5 gallon tank i average 150 mile. and the fuel gauge SUCKS! you'll learn to reset the tripodometer at every fillup.
I reset my trip meter always .This is great way to back up the fuel gauge.

i hear u 100 miles and my rear needs to get ride of that numb feeling lol.
i know when i got mine i had to ride 500 miles home on it wahat a greta way to get teh feel of the bike. (did i mention it rained the whole way) wasnt for bad luck i would have none lol

Since you are looking for used, get an 08 or newer. They have a 5.3 gallon tank and a 1250 engine, along with Brembo brakes that actually stop the bike.

First tank of fuel this season I only averaged 25Mpg, but it was fun.... Usually after I settle down I can get 120 miles out of a tank. Definitely need the bigger tank.

The 06 has the small tank, which mine has. I can safely get 110-120 per tank. The 06 also has the brembo brakes and the fuel gauge works. Starting in 2007, the VRSCD was equipped with the 5 gallon fuel tank.

If the price point between an 06 and an 08 was close, I would definitely get the 08.

my gage is always under E even right after i fill up and drive the less the a 1/4 mile home from the station POS fuel gage. sure wish someone would make a gage sensor that works i'd be 1st in line in gettin it.
watch ebay for the bike you want thats what i did and finally found an 08 cdx for 11 out the door poor stock 350ish miles yes that is hundred. just did not have the ABS

First ride of this season I got around 28 MPG, most of it city riding though and hard accelerations. Normally I get around 34-36 MPG, which isn't great, and something I'd want to improve with tuning.

When the bike is stock it get's amazing mileage, but the moment you put an exhaust/filter/tuner on it goes down the drain significantly.
