After it was "right", I riveted the original metal bracket back on at the top license plate mounting slots (3/16 rivet with a large backing washer) and bolted it to the original intended mounting area...I had to file out the mount holes in the bracket a bit to help with alignment.

For a light, I used a license plate bracket with LED plate lights in in. Its all very clean and tidy

Funny thing is, I actually spent 2 days on this project doing this 3 different ways, but the final version would have only taken about an hour to do.
Scorched,

Your modifications to the international plate bracket look fantasitc! Doesn't the international bracket come with lights though too? Just curious if you tried to use those, or if you just went straight to the license plate bracket with LEDs in it? Great job, I hope to do the same if I get a Muscle

The original light on the international bracket is pretty big and would not have worked.
Here's a thread that talks a bit about it
https://www.1130cc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=165348

I cut that area out along with most of the rest of the plastic bracket Basically, I used about 10% of the original international bracket but it was a very important 10%.

Some simply use the metal bracket from the international assembly only and rivet a plate to that. I wanted an OEM ABS plastic look and although a customized touch/part, I wanted it to appear original to the bike.

Scorched,

Thanks, lots of good info. I really like how you did yours since you used just enough of the plastic to make it look like the way HD "should" have done it from the factory. I will go your route if I get the Muscle

I still have to decide between the F and the DX, but I am leaning towards the F

Thanks again,
Buster

You can't go wrong with either one.
I picked the muscle because I favored it's more modern look at it just physically fit me better...there also seems to be less of them around. I've always enjoyed being the odd one out.

Thanks, that is what I figured. I too prefer the styling of the Muscle, but I also like the blacked out look. My wife actually prefers the look of the 2014 Victory Judge, so that would really make me the odd one out. Victory doesn't offer ABS on the Judge though and that is a must have for me.

Sorry for the thread hijack...

Mounting bracket

All European models come from the dealer with the plates on the rear fender or just under it, including the muscle rod. It shouldn't be hard to find the bracket as it bolts under the fender and sticks out over the top of the rear tire.

V-Rod Muscle Tag Relocation

Took the plunge and the tin snips to the Dog's Ass.

Take it easy on me, it's in but not done.

I think it looks better. Before all you'd see is a huge chunk of plastic.

HELL YEAH Gwaii!

In the end, I ended up trimming the outer edge where it turned down....it was hitting the tail light and wouldn't let it pull up snug. I only used the 2 bolts that attach the metal bracket.
Like this:

NICE JOB and way to jump into it....

ALSO - when mounted by the metal bracket only, you can tweak and bend it to exactly where you want it too.

Thinking about lighting.

Wondered if anyone had used those lighted bolts?

Yea, tweaking the bracket helped.

Never would have thought of this if you hadn't tried it.

The wing tips do touch and may have to go.

The bolts work, but aren't particularly elegant-- especially if you have a frame on the plate and have to take it apart every year to put new stickers on it-- the wiring on the bolts gets in the way.

Here's another option. If you're *really* bored, you can get oem connectors from H-D for a few bucks so you can just make the illuminated plate plug and play.

Pretty cheap, actually. You might find it cheaper if you look around. I just grabbed the first link I saw to show a pic of it.
