Is the V-Rod a Harley or a Porsche? Let's find out!

The age old debate about whether the V-Rod is a Harley-Davidson, or is it a Porsche? Well, I asked the father of the V-Rod... Willie G.

Thanks for posting this great clip!

Anyone who loves motorcycles of any kind owe a great debt of gratitude to Willie G. Davidson for his part in saving one of the great marks of motorcycle history and delivering a thriving company into the new millennium.

And those of us who love the VRod owe him more so for bringing this bike into existence.

Thanks too to the folks at Porsche Engineering in Detroit for giving us a world class powerplant.

You could start to learn a little about how your VRod came into existence here starting on page 16.

HD has used Porsche since the mid 70s for R&D and engineering support. They were involved in the Nova project, and helped design the EVO.

My thoughts exactly. Anything else would be contemptuous and have the faithful in mutiny. But who cares anyway. The MC manufacturers all steal from each other anyway. Engineers bounce from company to company. Very few absolutely original ideas.

I'm sure HD had a goal, had numbers to reach, had prioritys and put forth a desire for a certain look as well. Nothing at all was/is proprietary (exception on air-box?) on that engine, all has been done before. Overhead cams and valves, 4 valves per, water cooled, 1 piece unit -shared oil. All has been done. Maybe not in such quite a nice package and certainly not from a US company, but older tech.

And the TC. Porsche "engineering" is hired out by and from many an auto and MC manufacturer to coffee pot makers!

The story's, the innuendo, conjecture about this will never end and never be settled. Some just want to believe it's all Porsche, others don't. Some want to believe it's the Nova, The VR1000, others do not. I've read more people taking credit for that engine than I can list. From Cosworth to Penske. The attention is quite a mystery.
It's an HD.
