Stage 2

Just got my bike back from dealership. Full stage 1. Already want to start stage 2 work. Anyone know the best setup? Stage 1 made it sound good, but far from what I'm looking for as far as power. Especially in the low end.

Well first off the vrod isn't known for low end torque. I used SE stage 2 cams in my motor and they are pretty popular. No real need to change injectors or throttle bodies unless going to a big bore. The vrod makes good power but weighs alot. We are limited as far as how much power we can make because of engine case design.

Don't know anything about stages, but about the only things you can do to a V-Rod for more power are a good tune, cams, big bore, NOS, and forced induction.

Any idea on what the cost is for having the SE stage 2 cams done at a dealership?

Depends on the dealers, mine quote around 1200 for labor and the cams. I just ended up having them down when I went big bore.

My SE2 cam install & (dyno tune @ 2.5 hours) was I think, $560.00 or $590.00. I know it defineately was not over $600.00. The cams cost me $418.00 shipped to my door from Elvis @ Hales HD. Scott @ Fitzgerald Motorsports reffered me to him, both Great guys. So all in all it was around $1000.00. I've heard of dealerships charging as high as $1800.00 for this same install (insane). I had Vreelands do mine because they are experts @ everything VRSC.

It pays to shop around. I got cams, TBs, injectors and dyno time was less than that. I wouldn't pay $500 for dyno time. My dealer was around $300.

$500 for Dyno time is a rip off to tune cams.. $250 here.

$66/hr for 2.5 hours = $165.00. Plus tax it & was like $180.00ish. That is what I paid for my dyno tune. Also make sure the dealership/mechanic knows what they are doing as far as the install on your bike. I've heard of guys getting charged & arm & a leg & they wound up with a bike that gained a whopping 3HP (no BS). It is curcial that you have a mechanic who is well versed in the VRSC platform do these cams

Oh yea, Uhhh.... $500.00? That's a sign that they litterally have no idea what they are doing as far as "dyno tuning" goes.

I would tell that "stealership" to GTFO LOL.

On the tuning for sure.. the stealership I was tuned at couldn't get the engine to pull beyond 7,500 rpms and they kept trying to tell me "that's all it has in it" Were traned in dyno tuning, Blah Blah Blah.. All mighty HD techs... I already knew the problem was in the map they were using because I reached out to Vreelands and they told me what the problem was. After a day and 1/2 on the dyno they finally listened and made me sign a waver that I was having them do something outside of what a HD tech would do and wouldn't you know it, It worked perfect!! Moral of the story, Beware of HD service techs unless they work on "V's" on a regular basis

^^^^ YUP, You have to use the Stage I map & build the A/F ratios off that in order to tune your bike when the SE2 cams are installed.
