2013 owners w/ABS

I ordered a 2013 last week and they have been trying to find one and finally did but he just gave me the VIN for it so I could get my insurance setup while Im waiting for it to get here.

Only thing is the VIN isnt jiving from what I can tell. The VIN starts with 1HD1HHH and I though the 5th and 6th digits being HH meant it was a night rod special withOUT ABS and I ordered one with. I had him double check and he says his "harley system" says it has ABS.

Can anyone with a 2013 ABS bike see if their VIN is HH or HM like the older bikes?

Mines a 2012 and it starts off 1HD1HHH and its not abs so from the above poster i would think that prefix doesnt apply to whether or not its abs

Thanks alot guys, I guess the ABS is not the 5th and 6th digits afterall. At least not in the later years.

Ive just had a look at my 2013 and it starts 5HD1HHH.

I was also of the belief that all 2013's came with ABS?

Optional - part of the security package ($1195 in the U.S.) that includes ABS brakes and the security system.

Edit: that specs page link works for me, but I'd just been on their site. If someone finds that the link doesn't work for them let me know and I'll figure out a different way to post it.

When I got my 2012 I got the ABS/security package. I had to install the siren myself.

Or at least install the siren when someone forks out the $1200 for the option.

The siren is extra on top of the $1200. Dumbest thing I ever heard.

wow, seriously? I can't imagine anyone not liking ABS on a V-Rod. Heck, I swapped a 2012 for another 2012 that had ABS, and I have engaged it twice already. The bike stops on a dime in a perfectly straight line. One occassion was a stop from about 55 mph.....deer jumped across the road right in front of me. No drama, no modulating brakes to try and stop a lock up. Fantastic feature. A bike with this performance capability needs all the safety assist tools possible, IMO.

for the OP, if you order the bike and it specifically states that ABS is included along with the price you are paying for the option, it's easy to check when the bike comes in whether it has ABS or not:

the front wheel will have a black plastic speed sensor attached to the brake caliper. Also, when you turn on the ignition, the ABS light will blink steadily.

if it doesn't, then I would think you are protected per the buyer's order and they have to get you the correct bike.

Plus, if the dealer does not know how to properly locate a bike with ABS....you need to find another dealer, IMO.

I also agree completely that ABS should be standard. No doubt it's an option in order to keep the bike at a certain price point...

I had done some hard braking on my 09 Vord. One time it almost went done under me. I had determined my next bike would need to have ABS. So when I ordered my 12DX I asked for ABS. It took them a while to find one.

They said it had ABS from the start, I just got to looking at the VIN they gave me and assumed from info on here and other sites that ABS bikes were HM in the 5th and 6th fields. The bike is two states away so untill it gets here no way to confirm in person.

Yeah like I said above, my dealer had to go two states away to get one. There is a denim black '13 without ABS at another dealer a few miles away but ABS seems to be hard to get.
