Forward or Mid controls, what was original?

I bought my 06' VRSCD used from a Harley dealer and it has forward controls. Everything I have been reading says the 06' models came out with mid controls. I am confused. So did they come out both ways in 06'? I would love to move back to mid controls but can not find parts to do this. Anyone know where I can get the parts to do this?
Thanks for any info.

Mid controls were stock on all "D" models. Alot of times if you post in the "Wanted/Trade" section of the forum you can find guys with "DX" models looking for mids and swap with them.

If you want to move back to mids then check the DX forums for a part list. Be sure to get the motor mount if yours has been removed.

If you look at the picture below under the swing arm is a silver peg sticking out. If you do not have this part then you will require a right side motor mount off a D to go back to mids. Everything else just bolts up and is easy to wrench in a garage.

I removed mine and did not keep the part. DX at the same shop wanted the part so I never made it out the door with the part...

I have a set of mid controls off of an 06 D in a box somewhere. I'd I'd be happy to sell them to you

For the record, i think mid controls rock. I was going to fit these onto my 09 DX, but i sold the bike before I ever got around to it

and Rs (the two, IMHO, best models). All the rest had forward controls.

Edit: Parts available from Zanotti's if you don't find 'em in the Classifieds soon enough, but it sounds like Night Ryder's gotcha covered.

(Thanks again for the bars & brake line, NR!)

Thanks for the offer. I don't know what I am going to do right now. I have seen kits for other harleys that move the forward controls farther forward. If i could get them out in front farther it might be better. Again, thanks for the offer. Hope someone else can use them.

In the sandbox or I would sell the remaining take-offs from my mid to front conversion.

I bought the 06 D BECAUSE it has mids and handled a passenger better than the R. The highway pegs are a major bonus.

If you decide you want mids I would be willing to have mine taken off and trade for your forwards, as I have been saving to get forwards for awhile now. I have an 07 with mids

I have an 06 "D" and would love to move my controls ONLY 6"-8" forward from the mid position. I'm 5'5" and the can barely reach the front peds so full forward is out of the question!!!!

Is there any way to do this??

I got an 08 D because of the mids, just was not comfortable with the forwards. Since then I bought a Street Glide also and after riding it with the floorboards my D feels like it is folding me up so I am going to install forward controls. If someone wants to trade get to me soon as I am getting all of the part numbers together and will buy the pcs soon. I also have a complete stock exhaust, turn signals etc that have less than 1,000 miles on them.
