Oil check solo?

How do I check the oil with out help? It seems the bike has to keep up right before you can read the dip stick.

Check it like the manual states.Make sure it is full. Then check it when it is on the stand and get a reference point.

I started doing this because I had visions of my face hitting the asphalt, followed by a 600+lb motorcycle stuck on the back of my head.

Considering Harley chooses to put a "check the oil at every gas fill up" sticker on the bike (and that means every 100-150 miles!!! if you choose to do it) they could have at least put the markings on the dip stick so you could check it while on the side stand. And what's with a modern engine design on a street bike that would need to be checked this frequently. None of my previous "Air head" Harleys required this, only check their oil every 500 miles or once a week and while on their side stands.

check your owner's manual for the air cooled HD bikes, I would be very surprised if it did not direct you to check it at every fuel stop.
When I first got the bike I checked it once/week, after 5k miles I checked it once/month or if I "felt" something was off with the bike and or shifting. Thankfully my bike has never burned oil, but if your bike happens to be one that likes to drink oil, checking it at every fuel stop is the minimum you should be doing.
