Oil consumption & dreaded Fuel Gauge!

Hey folks just returned from a 1000 mile ride, bike ran strong only two issues was the fact it burned 1 quart of HD syn oil & according to my fuel gauge the guy riding a 1200 sporty had a greater distance per tank of gas then I did. Called the dealer today he said the oil usage was normal?????? and told me he was going to contact the MoCo about the sending unit & try replacing it for a third time???? Wish me luck. I will be switching to the amsoil oil next time!

1) Oil usage with Syn3 I would consider normal. When you switch to Amsoil that will all go away.
2) Ignore the fuel gauge and use your odometer. Even though my gauge "works" now with a new sender, it reads dead nuts empty when there is 1.2 gallons remaining. Drive it to 140 miles and fill-er-up. That should give you at least a 25 mile reserve unless you're very throttle happy.

Ive done 10,000kms on my F now and finally the oil burning has almost stopped. I ride it fairly hard (always used HD oil). As for fuel gauge, yep use the odometer...........

Oil consumption is NEVER normal in a modern engine. In fact, an engine that burns oil is in violation of several EPA regulations.
Dump the syn3 and switch to any other Quality synthetic oil such as Amsoil or Mobil 1.
Ride the bike hard, keep RPMs above the 4k range until you seat your rings, lots of heavy engine braking will aid in this as well.
