1) Oil usage with Syn3 I would consider normal. When you switch to Amsoil that will all go away.
2) Ignore the fuel gauge and use your odometer. Even though my gauge "works" now with a new sender, it reads dead nuts empty when there is 1.2 gallons remaining. Drive it to 140 miles and fill-er-up. That should give you at least a 25 mile reserve unless you're very throttle happy.
