AW Tallboy seat

Ok,

I know I have been waiting for a tallboy for at least 3 years to put on my AW. Iím tired of butt -burn. I am 6'4" 300lbs and love my vrod! I am so tired of the stock seat I am willing to look for someone to build a tallboy or help provide input so I can build one. If the seat is only different in width has anyone thought about moving the tallboy to an AW stock seat pan? Iím not an upholsterer but I would think that this could be done?

Also looked for an aftermarket, hard to find custom seats to fit with a base plate.

Any inputs would be appreciated!

AW Tallboy

Here we go, I was able to find the ever elusive used tallboy on eBay as well as a 07 DX donor seat.

Just finished pulling the staples on the DX, will get to the tallboy next in order to properly measure the pan. I have done a rough measuring and it looks as if there is only about an Inch difference in width between the two pans. Here are the beginning photos.

This is a first for me so I will document the progress. There has been a lot of information out there, but so far DIY motorcycle seats on the web have been my greatest library of knowledge to pull from.

Later,
Big Hurt

Ok,
Stage two was to strip the tallboy so I can measure the pan and get the 240 seat to match. Once I cut it and remover the sharp edges it was simple to mock it up.
Now all I need to do is remove a little foam from the bottom in order to get it stretched entirely around the pan, and then I should be able to staple it all together.
Not bad for my first seat mod......

i'm 6ft 4in as well !

i thought the tallboy just sat you higher ? when i looked at this a few years ago i did not want to sit higher in the seat not at 6ft 4in to start with !

so i went with extended forward controls from v-mod , they are 2inchs forward which gives you just enough to relax those legs a bit.

guy on here offers 3 inch forwards.

even took some foam out the back of the seat but that never worked due to the electrics hump !

The only time 6'4" is a handicap! When riding the Vrod!
I have the V-Mod extensions as well and the have been awesome in changing the angle on the knees and hips. My issue is the back of the stock seat hits a nerve on either my hip or spine, and my thighs end up falling asleep between 1-1.5 hours. Not good when weekend touring with friends.
The tallboy was supposed to not only move you up but also back, and by looking at the PIC it will take away the steep rear of the seat.

AW Tallboy

Now I have taken apart the passenger seat, and have run into a snag. Looking at the seat pan the tail seems to be different than the stock. I am wondering if the 07 and newer touring pillion has the same "Whale Tail" (ha ha ha) to the rear of it?

If anyone can elaborate I would appreciate it, before I decide to buy it?

Well no response...... So I ordered the smooth look touring pillion. It should be in tomorrow. Hopefully it will have the same rear profile so can get started on the passenger portion. I am ready for riding season! Looking forward to some longer rides......
