Lost Fob and Key

Did a search of forums to see what has to be done to replace fob. Friend took my VRSCAW for a quick ride and came back minus the key and fob. Need to get new fob but I'm learning that the dealer has to program it? Also the ignitiion/fork key was lost. Does that need to be ordered or can I get from the parts department?

Thanks.

Pretty sure the key has to be special ordered. My bike came with some type of little tag or chip that I was told I would need to get the key replaced. I am sure thought that if you show them your registration and ID they can replace it with the VIN number.

"Chip" is a key code under the rubber on the key.Got a second key? Registration/title/ VIN # and ID will get you new keys/fobs. Don't sweat it, just prove you own it! No big thingy, just big hassle.

I just got a new set of keys - they come as two. The dealer has a code and needs your code on your spare key (its under the rubber). Not cheap. Good luck.

Replacement Lost Key

I was quite excited to get on my bike and ride for the first time in Melbourne that I forgot to put the key and fob in my pocket and left it in the ignition switch. Got to my destination about 20 km away, the shop where I was having a tire replaced and discovered I did not have a the keys. I was pissed. Luckily I had a spare at the house and my wife was able to drop it off. I retraced my route and spotted nothing.
Did some research and found some comments on possibility of a good locksmith being able to cut a replacement key. So I gave it a shot.

Found a decent locksmith. I asked if it was possible. He could not see any reason why he would not be able to cut key. He just said it will cost $10 AUD. So I gave it a shot. Got home tried it out and it worked! I was pleased. I had spoken to a dealer earlier and they said it would take 3-4 weeks.

I still need to visit the dealer for the fob. It makes me wonder if there are sources out there than can program a substitute fob.

If you searched on lost keys, Good luck.

The newer "hands free" or buttonless fobs require the dealer "digital technician" software to assign the serial numbers. I haven't heard of any place that has this software other than an HD dealer. If you get a spare fob you'll need to bring both fobs to the dealer so these can be setup at the same time. Whenever fobs are setup the stored fob serial numbers are first erased. Also, the security system PIN must be entered before the fob serial numbers are assigned.
