painting the frame on an 03 vrsca.. thoughts welcome
Hello all..
I have an 03 a. had it for 5 years, before that had an 02.
the one I have now is almost completly chromed, acid etched Ozzy skins(remember him?), wheels, swingarm, triple clamps, calipers, everything. chrome topped bags too..
anyway... I want to do something different as after 5 years I am tired of looking at the silver/gray frame.. and no.. I am not going to spend the money to chrome it!! But I am considering painting it..
I'd sell it.. as I have a mess of other bikes.. but trying to sell a v rod is .. well forget it.. the market has been soured to the point of ridiculas by shear volumes of people who feel the need to give them away!!!
but I digress..... I would like your opinion , and espessilly pictures if you have them.. of bikes with different color frames than silver or black. I am thinking candy blue or candy red to really set off the rest of the chrome.. EVERYTHING IS CHROME.
My wife's thoughts are.. do not paint it for any reason.. but heck.. I already changed everything else on the bike.. why not the frame?
Please let me know your thoughts.. and if you have pictures.. please send me one or two to
powershotman@comcast.net
thanks.... anyone looking for a totally chromed v rod with a silver frame!!!

the tins are all chrome.. with acid etched ghost flames in them... a few years ago.. there was a guy who did a limited amount of these sets down in texas.. ozzy customs.
If you're new to v rods.. you may have never seen them.. he only did about 90 sets total and most went to europe.
I'm not looking so much for color selection.. although it's welcome... it's more "would it look cool".. or would it look dorky, or "add on" or what the heck did you do that for?
and would love to see a picture or two to powershotman@comcast.net
thanks

I understand your Distain for the frames on the 02-04 models. They are terrible and poorly done and the Newer "A" frames where so much better. Do you Plan on disassembling and doing this correctly or doing an Earl Scheib type deal where you only paint whats most Visible? If you are going the Correct route I would have it Powder coated a darker Gray than what the new "AW" models are. More chrome would be just More over kill and ridiculous in my opinion. a Nice dark Gun metal gray with a nice Gloss to it that wont Wear Out like the 02-04 models do would look excellent. I dream of it but it would take too long and too much down time for me to do.

I also agree with David. A darker gray would look great. I had my frame replaced within the first year do to paint/rust issues on my bike that was and still is garage kept. The frame paint on 02-03 is the worst looking thing on those bikes.

I would say "go for it"! You didn's say what color the ghost flames are, but I would try to match them somewhat. If you a candy with some sparkles in it (not too much) it would make it "match" the chrome no matter what. I would recommend powdering it instead of painting it if you can. My painted fork sliders are chipping a little. I have a great inexpensive powder coater that is local to me and I am going to rip all painted parts off and have him repowder them. I would love to do the frame but the dissassemble/reassemble would be just too much for me right now.
Good luck!
-Keith

Powdercoating a particular color and then getting matching sets of bolts and other small trim pieces to to match the frame and contrast the chrome would be cool
