2,200 cc's and 140 HP...

Alan rolled by yesterday with his new Rocket III by Triumph. After 10,000 miles on my VROD, I sat on Alan's bike and thought I was sitting on a Kenworth...sheesh, what a beast! He also has a black RUNE in showroom condition that he's decided to sell. Alan likes the big bikes!

Nevertheless- a nice lookin' beast. I don't think I want to own one, but I sure would like to take one for a test ride.

I looked at one of these at the bar over the weekend the 2 pipes on one side and 1 pipe on the other very strange. It was nice looking bike but I thought with 2200cc it would make some noise very quiet.

I have yet to ride one either...Alan said it has endless low end torque and is extremely comfortable with a very compliant suspension and perfect seating, handlebar & footpeg locations. Yesterday, I sat on it with a pair of flip flops (careful now...no political references) and was easily able to right it off of the kickstand...as easy as a Rivera right hand drive Evo style engine set up. Also, that massive radiator would be just the thing for your summer weather!

Surely (Shirley?) there will be aftermarket pipes out very soon...perhaps even a single header setup (the stock has that Catapiller Tractor look to it) that flows through a one-sided muffler that will rumble. The cylinders have a longer stroke than diameter making it a true "stroker" which would sound nasty with the right exhaust mods!

My brother has one of them, I've done a couple of hundred miles on it myself. It handles well and the torque is tremendous, it pulls like crazy from almost no revs.
He's about to order one of these for it:
http://www.boostisgood.com/start.htm
(Click on Rocket 111).
I need to get one of those superchargers or turbo's for the Rod when they come out or big brother is gonna really spank my a$$.

BTW let's clear up some myths, the 'rear wheel' HP is around the 118 mark but what is astonising is the max torque , around 135 is at 2500 rpm . Don't pick on one of these from the lights, unless you're modded of course

Motorcyclist magazine had a brief blurb this month comparing the Triumph with the V-Rod. The author acknowledged a slight performance nod to the Triumph but overall preferred the V-Rod for superior handling

I think the engine block is FUGLY! I don't like that bike much, but does have a ton of torque!

Although that thing is horribly ugly, it is stoopid fast in the 1/4 mile. The dealer in Abq had his "demo" rocket III at the dragway last friday and it was smoking everyone (me included).
