I noticed we didn't have one of these, and figured I'd make one. I mod on some car forums, and they are usually pretty interesting topics.
So did you mod, maintain, fix something?
Today
- I changed and bled the rear brakes (now its very very stiff hmmm)
- Relocated the rear signal to the shock mounts using a kit (required pulling the shock tops, rear fender, under-fender, cutting the under fender, and extending the wires)
- Installed the side-mount from Killervrod.... had to cut my plate smaller, but looks good. I didn't install the LED yet.
- Removed the Screaming Chicken exhaust and packed them up, getting TAB's this week
Replaced the jiffy stand bushings and wired up my garage door opener to the siren side of my auxiliary switch that also runs my electric shifter. No more getting off the bike to open the side door like some kind of caveman!
tried to go on a quickie ride, discovered battery went kaput, so i pulled it, had it checked at AutoZone (still good for a 5yr old factory battery). got a battery tender with the hookup pigtails for 40$ and installed everything today
Probably last warm day here in Missouri for a ride, rode to work, bailed out 2 hours early, and rode till she turned over to 22,000 miles. Put on 19,000 myself and have had since December of 2011. She will sit in heated garage till a warm day, maybe wipe down and cover.
New member here I recently picked up an 03 anniversary edition that was slightly dumped and in the last week replaced; stator cover, stator (cut wires), radiator cover, horn cover, one frame rail, still waiting on speedo bezel, radiator shrouds, and sprocket cover which are all ordered, getting pretty close to finishing it up and I'm wishing it wasn't turning to winter fast here in Michigan so I could do some riding.
I went out to load for a trip and found a puddle of oil! Stator wire leak! I thought I fixed it! I was wrong! Back to the drawing board! I wonder if marine epoxy will do it ? RTV was an epic fail!
Yeah, Joe, I'm with the rest. At least on my '03, still with the old-style stator and cover, pulling everything apart, cleaning several times with brake cleaner or alcohol, gooping it up good from the inside and putting it together while still wet is the only thing that worked.
On the outside, it's only going to shake loose almost immediately.
I pulled it apart, cleaned, dried, rtv, 30 hours of dry time, leaked! I will try again. The pia is the supercharger has to come off to get the alternator cover off. I will get lots of practice, the A leaks, too!
Tried to start it but was a no go. It was just to cold. Battery is alright. HAppened last year also. Once spring comes and warms up, it kicks right over.
is 8 deg out, started the beast and let her run for about 10 minutes to get a good warm up. shut her down and plugged in the bat. tender to keep battery charged up. need some warmer weather so can go for a ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:
Will find out tomorrow when I take it apart, just wanted to make sure I have all bases covered. Axle is new so it should be fine I hope
