Would You Buy Another Harley (other than a V-Rod)?

I've ridden all the other model Harley's and would not buy any of them. Am I alone here? Compared to the competition they seemed to me to be a big disappointment. Braking, performance, lean angle, fit/finish, etc., all seemed a bit below average compared to what's out there. I think Harley has turned into more of a marketing machine than a well engineered product. OK, they do look good.

:soapbox:

I'm done now.

I was really Torn last month when I went and put a down payment on my Triumph Scrambler, I stopped by an HD dealership to look at the 48 1 last time before I did, I love that 48, but after talking to the saleperson and telling him I had just put a down payment on a Triumph and was waiting for the bank to open on Tuesday to get the cash for the rest of the price he said "I will knock off $200 since you are paying cash" hence making the bike $3600 more then the Triumph. Needless to say I am now the proud owner of a Triumph Scrambler and not a HD 48, a Bike I loved since the day it came out and still do. HD needs to rethink their "Entry Level" bikes and their prices. You can buy Ducatis' Triumphs etc... for much less. If he had gone down $1000 instead of $200 I would have a 48 in my garage today.
As for their bigger bikes? No, I like none of them and the few I see that I do are Way over priced.

HD finds itself is a very odd predicament, Its created this whole fake "Lifestyle" nonsense that has raked in the profits for many years etc... but there is a large population of people out there that steer away from HD because of the "Pirates" and being associated with them.

I'm glad you bought a Triumph. It fits perfectly with the gay porn industry that you work in. Now you can spend your life (40,000 posts = 14/day since 2005) on the Scrambler forum bashing Triumph riders and bikes like you did with H-D. We'll miss you; not.

A Great example of an Over priced bike that could have sold better if they even attempted to try and understand the people they where making it for.. Which is too bad as it sold really well in Europe when it was released.

Exactly. If they offer us a modern product with contemporary performance, of course I woud consider it. But not any of the bikes they sell today including any of the V-Rod models being offered.

No! :vrod: only! When & if HD puts the V-Rod technology and engineering into other models then maybe... But the down side is still pricing...
I consider the V-Rod the cream of the HD crop but not when considering all brands.
So why a V-Rod?? I got a good lookin' bike (VRSCF) that is liquid cooled, has ABS, and cool features that include but not limited to: fat rear tire, dual exhaust, LED tail lights/signals.

Back when I first bought my Corvette, the car I've always wanted, I still compared it to the 300ZX, Supra, and RX-7 (this was back in 1992!) I knew the pros & cons of all of those models and 20+ years later I am still happy with the Vette!

It's your choice! I can tell you why I picked mine and how it is "better or worse" than what I didn't pick. But when you tell me you got what you wanted, that's a point none of us can argue! :ride:

Love the 48, too, but the price makes me gag.
Also wouldn't mind having my Road King back - but not at the cost of giving up my V-Rod.
I'm considering getting a bagger style -maybe the BMW 1300 - and dumping one or two of my sport machines. I can't justify the cost of the big H-Ds.

I consider myself too tall for Sportster models but I love the look of the 48 parked. Riding it, I look like an ogre trying to balance on a mosquito.

There is one of the weird things about a Harley. A Sportster is, by any standard, a long and heavy motorcycle. Yet, because HD styles their bikes to have a lot of exposed steel, or plastic on a V-Rod, rear fender showing behind the passenger "seat", you end up with this big bike and a cramped riding position.
The riding position of the Street Rod, and the distance from the seat to the bars, is pretty compact too. I have to keep reminding myself there is a couple of feet of bike out there behind me. Most bikes are shorter and have the rear wheel almost under the rider instead of well behind. The wheelbase of a V-Rod is greater than that of a GL-1800 Gold Wing, but you wouldn't guess it from the crowded riding position of the V-Rod.

I'd like to have a Fat Boy Low as a second bike. But would NOT pay as much as HD asks for it.

I also like how Rocker C looks.

No way they are all too dull.

Hd offers everything the novice and weekend warriors want.
HD offers everything most riders need. Especially on the streets.
HD performance and handling are about as much as 95% of the bikers, including most of you can handle - period.
HD offers aesthetics, although subjective, as a priority, which, if you'll admit is a priority for 95% of the buyers as well.
HD offers a scratch for that middle age itch, that mid life crisis.
HD has it all. :D

***Ask yourselves why you are on one, why an HD?
Performance?- Really?
Handling? - I doubt it.
Looks, the HD badge, the mystique?
Be honest with yourselves. There was better and cheaper to be had, more HP, more lean to be had, yet you went with the Bar and Shield!

Going on 110 years of doing it wrong, making an inferior product, ignoring the competition and they just keep selling bikes....and you are all in the club!
