rear brake sensor

went for a ride on my vrscf and got less than a block away and smoke and brurning wire smell comes from under air box..


the sensor that feeds into the brake module was melting? any one ever seen or heard of this? i guess its for the rear brake has two wires and is just under front right cover..

no idea how to remove it its behind the frame rail and the brake lines

This is typical and a known failure on these bikes. It's very easy to replace - it just unscrews. Replace it with Auto Zone part# RB401 and be done with it. If you use the Harley part replacement it will be the same part and will do it again. There will be brake fluid that comes out when you remove the sensor and you'll have to bleed the system after you replace the part. Be sure to use a teflon thread compound or teflon tape on the threads when installed. Good Luck!

It's not a sensor per se, it is the brake light switch. Known issue. You can get an aftermarket part which is less prone to melting, but you might also ask why it is getting so hot. Check for lean running or a badly designed aftermarket exhaust that is too close. Thanks to the bunny huggers, the stock bike runs too lean as well. If you want to keep the stock exhaust, fit a tuner. Not only will it stop the brake switch meting, but the bike will run way better.
