Slipstreamer Tombstone Windshield - HD-3 on VRSCDX

Thought I'd share a couple pix of the Slipstreamer Tombstone HD-3 smoke windscreen that I recently added to my NRS. I was really averse to putting a windshield on my bike because I love the look of the bike, but have had several days of open highway with sustained speeds over 80, one day with brutal cross wind. It seemed like it was time for something to take the edge off, stop lifting my helmet (above 90) and ease the battle with the wind.

Bought this screen on Amazon for an obscenely inexpensive price. Normally is around $60-$70. I'd say it is worth it at $60. (I paid $12 - less than a growler of my favorite beer!) If anyone wants one, I hope you can still find a deal like that. Removed the factory slipstreamer sticker and added a willie G skull medallion instead. (also $12 at the dealer) I also added a couple rubber pads to the back of the screen where it contacts the factory headlamp "screen"

Anyway, I searched the web a bunch of times looking for a photo of this particular windscreen on a late model V-Rod and could't find anything. So, here goes.

How is the performance since you installed? Hows the buffeting also?

Positioning is key in trying to reduce buffeting of head, but I never got rid of it completely. It is pretty small and did a good job of taking the brunt of the wind from my chest however.

issues:
-when positioned the best to get the least amount of head buffeting, the windscreen would shake fairly obnoxiously when at a stop light or in stop and go traffic.
-i moved it down so it would rest just above the light mini "fairing". shaking went away. i put plastic tubing along the bottom of the windscreen to prevent marking of the bike. also used adhesive backed bumpers (like you would use to stop cabinets from slamming). those moved partially because of the shaking and partially because of the heat of the sun. the plastic tubing rubbed a line in my bike's fairing paint job. tried to rub those markings out, but if you get close, they are still there.

In the end, I ditched the fairing for daily use. I still have the brackets attached to my handlebars for day-long rides where there is less stop and go so I can take an edge off, but go windscreen-less most of the time as I do a lot of commuting each week on my NRS.

Beautiful bike, ugly windshield. I think you'd be better off w/ a full clear windshield or a bullet fairing. It's a shame to spend that much money on a beautiful motorcycle and cheapen it out w/ an ugly windscreen.

I agree. 98.9% of time that windscreen sits on my storage shelf. Normally looks like this! (Just installed LED rear signal strip tonight)
