Question Air Box Cover Question

Greater minds please... is there any specific year model V-Rod that has a metal air Box cover? And are they all the same? I am thinking for magnetic tank bag applications... thanks.

Yes, guess that explains it. Tank bags with suction cups don't suck so good, or may I should say... Thank You.

Well guess I need to pony up the $$$ for a metal cover first then start the quest for the ultimate "road-trip" tank bag. Thank you.

I thought it was 2007 that HD switched from aluminum to steel air box lids?

THere are stories of Left overs being used the following year along with the new steel ones. a simple magnet test will tell but they never released a Fiberglass airbox cover.

Ah, that makes sense. You know I have two '07's with steel lids and both lids are just a little bit different. One fits great and the one on the bike with the later production date fits tight and has a larger gap around the perimeter. Consistency on some parts seems to vary by whatever subcontractor HD was using that week.

I have 2004 sandwitch aluminum, 2006 sandwitch aluminum and 2010 one layer steel covers. The steel one is 2 kg heavier than aluminum ones. All of them fits perfectly to 2004 bike.
