I finally got started on my valve lash adjustment last weekend and 5 valves were out of spec. - all 4 exhaust and 1 intake. I picked up new shims on Wednesday and finished up the job today. With a service manual, a few tips from here and about 10 hours quality time with my bike, I knocked this out and saved myself about $400. I spent $95 for gaskets, shims and sparkplugs, and $160 on tools.
In the process of doing this job I also found another issue with the cooling system that would have left me on the side of the road within a few thousand miles. With the $ I saved doing this myself I can buy those parts too and still be ahead. I'm so glad I decided to take this one on.
