Remove melted plastic on 12 DX Black Heat Shield?

I did some online research. Some people suggested oven cleaner, goof off, etc.... Do you all have any suggestions on how to remove melted plastic on the heat shield? I guess come to the worse I could just remove it, sand it down and spray paint it. Thanks!

Another option is to let it eventually burn off by just running the bike.

Thanks! I like psCyko's idea. I am afraid it may not be that easy.
