HD restricting sales of OEM parts overseas

I am not sure if this is the right area to post this and will rely on moderators to advise. Recently, i blew a front brake cable chucking dot 4 like it was a porno movie on a nitrod special. End result Harley Indonesia have what appears lost there license to import and timeline of 2 months (maybe and the price is way out there? 250 usd). I contacted a US company who advised they are not allowed to sell overseas nor to second party vendors in the US for onfowarding. I contacted the local stealer in Australia and while they have the parts, HD nor they realise to import anything into Indonesia is taxable including the price of shipping (tax on shipping costs plus the item cost). I aint sure what harley is attempting; however, am sure that i will be making the front brake cables even though it should have been 3 piece (nitrod special) they made it one piece (not very mechanical minded). Disapointing approach:moped:

Before all this came into action I remember standing at the parts counter arguing black and blue that i can get stuff cheaper from OS and they wouldnt price match.....they said to me watch this space.

Yep the customer is really everything.........not.

In most cases the answer is don't buy genuine, buy aftermarket. Stuff H/D.

I totally agree re after market parts. The issue i have been stuck with is harley has lost its import license in Indonesia. Stealership in Bali only has one sporty on the line (sold) and no parts. The other issue is paying customs on the actual shipping price plus the item price. Beyond comprehension and one would believe harley would waive the restriction when there stealers in Indo have lost the license to import. In any case the following link seems to imply harley will try and limit inter state sales in the US.

'Harley-Davidson countered by saying they’ve served 19 termination notices since 2005.'

Yes and I now see that St Paul Harley, have dropped their lawsuit on HD and given up the fight. The owner now says sales are on the improve..well bloody good for him.
This side of the world we are screwed whichever way we go.

rejector the advise about making US friends is very wise. I have had problems getting parts and having them delivered to Aus in the past, but I was amazed how many blokes
from all around the US offered help.

I try to keep in touch as a friend, not just someone to use when it suits me..they are a very generous nation.

Btw I see someone has already made an offer, which proves my point.

I agree with you in this regard. I prefer to ask friends last and not first. I was just highlighting that the hd stealers have lost there license to import OEM parts (indonesia). Local stealer has only one sold sporty in the showroom?. That being written HD should consider the ramifications of limiting OEM sales in countries where there is no hd stealers or in the case of Indo lost their import license (allow temporary online sales). The issue has been resolved via GR customs who with three piece braided line (ready to fit) for 110 USD; which with posting well is better than OEM product (i can change bar sizes and repair individual lines and not the whole system). In conclusion, relations with our counterparts in the US are important and well i am reluctant to ask unless really required. As someone has asked to assist, i am thankfull and really dont want to put any one out on a limb for really what is a minor item (scooter off the road for two weeks now and using the 110 cc yamaha mio well good for monos but not much else)
Cheers
