: New Bike
badboyparamedic 03-15-2008, 09:28 PM Just took delivery of new destroyer, any hints, tips or words of wisdom appreciated.
One question I have is they delivered while I was not home, can't get power to bike, is there switch or something I'm not finding?
VRODVAPOR 03-15-2008, 09:32 PM Congrats on the new wheels!! No power at all sounds like the main fuse is pulled and was never replaced behind the right side access panel... my 2 cents
badboyparamedic 03-15-2008, 09:34 PM First vrod, everything else I own is Softails. Assume you talking about panel behind frame neck.
capngeo 03-15-2008, 09:40 PM Welcome brother! Yes the triangular panel on the right side.... there's maxi-fuse there.... EVERYTHING runs through it
badboyparamedic 03-15-2008, 09:48 PM Will check it in morning, thanks. If its not there is it a Harley only item or can I get one from parts store.
capngeo 03-15-2008, 09:52 PM Its there.... but is it the problem? who knows! The screwdriver tip is on the fuse in the pic

badboyparamedic 03-15-2008, 09:56 PM Hope thats all it is, 400 miles round trip back to the dealer. Bike has never been started or run. They delivered it with the oil and filter in a box.
TaxmanHog 03-15-2008, 09:59 PM Congrat's on the new racer!
badboyparamedic 03-16-2008, 11:56 AM Just checked Maxi Fuse, it wasn't installed . Power to bike now . Thanks for the help.

J-Rodvrscr 03-16-2008, 10:20 PM those things are so wicked, i had the oppurtunity to sit on one once and i passed it up in fear i would hurt it, geeze it was badass......

MSO clearly states for off highway use only, no VIN
Heavens Thunder 03-17-2008, 06:14 AM Congrats and enjoy and drag on bro !
vrd65 03-17-2008, 07:58 AM If it doesn't shift when you first try the air shifter you have to call Pingel and get an up dated delay box. I had that problem and the air shift rod was bent and I had to fix that. Other than that and the rear sprocket coming loose after a few runs your good to go. Welcome, you'll have a great time with it.

BEFORE YOU FIRE IT UP---I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU READ THE POSTINGS IN THIS SECTION--ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT PATM STARTED.
That way you won't get any unpleasant surprises.
1. There is a loose bolt issue AND;
2. Pistons that may not be installed correctly. (Exhaust markings placed incorrectly on the intake notch side of the piston).
These are "check to be sure" issues.
Best Wishes on your new ride!!!

how the f**k can harley mess up so bad, holy crap, must have been vacation time for the quality control group? holy crap i'm amazed they would have such issues! especially on pure drag bikes they are charging $30K+

I really don't think anyone was on vacation or that HD messed up here at all.
Most of these things being found are part of the evolution of the product and some may not be issues specific to the Destroyer only.
To name a couple, the potential for the cam bolt or fastener to back out can happen to any V-Rod if not torqued corectly when assembled.
The Destroyer kill module is made by Pingel not HD and Pingel to my knowledge has been very good with a fix readily available to rectify the symtoms.
Transmission upgrades have been available from V&H for some time now and seem to be working quite well.
Hence the importance of keeping the lines of communcation and findings open amongst us to help fellow owners, HD and the other suppliers involved to either get the fixes out there, or to be proactive and prevent potential catastophic failures, as new owners put their bikes into racing service.
I think HD has done a very good job with these bikes. If you attend a AHDRA event you'd be surprised on just how many V-Rods / Destroyers are racing in the various classes and the potential they have and show at the track. Very affordable and fast platforms for HD race bikes.
The average price for these bikes lately is around the $ 25,000.00 US price range, give or take. Try and round up all of the parts individually that go into building one of these Destroyers or a race bike that'll do the 1/4 mile in the low 9's for less.
Most guys that send me PMs regarding fixes / available upgrades or things to watch out for do quite well with their bikes.
Just my two cents.
J-Rodvrscr 03-18-2008, 01:20 AM i do not doubt that $25,000 is the cheapest 9 second drag bike (although that does seam a little slow could probably push a hyabusa to do that with a wheelie bar) but to install the pistons wrong???? come on man, i love my v-rod so much, its disgusting, but to have that crucial of a mess up from the factory just seems amazing to me, but if they are willing to fix it like a recall issue then thats good cause every manufacture has problems in production, i know........i do warranty work on snow cats you should see the stupid shit i have to fix from the factory
HELLGIUM 03-19-2008, 07:40 AM What i did understand is that the std pistons in Destroyers are ok,
When you rebuild the engine there s some thing with the piston you order from oem SE you have to check the pockets intake & exhaust for mounting direction and the arrow on top of piston.
Check out on racing "Destroyer piston issue"
