53 yr. old rookie out of Rocklin, CA. Been riding since I was 16 and finally got tired of watching these kids (including my own) doing laps at the dragstrip thinking "I can do that". I'm running with a stock motor, Vmods, SE filter and fueler, lowered with Buell wheels and last week converted to chain drive. I run at the Wed. nite fun drags in Sac and west coast AHDRA. Initially, it took about 6 or 7 passes to break 12 sec; now I'm running 11.70's to 11.90's; best 60' 1.79 avg 1.8's. Consistensy is a problem but I've got 3 runner-ups in Sac this year. Havin a ball and thinking about building the motor for next year.

Do you have any pictures from the track? Three runner -up - you are knocking - inly a question of time before that door opens. Can you describe the first time that you went to the track.... what happened and how you felt - any advise for first timers - Tell us about your first win. HAve you raced your "kid" mentioned earlier.

Holy mackrel, after reading about ZIJspan and Kaz I feel so average joe like.
Anyway that door was wide open for me in the final last wed nite but I spun the tire and was over 2 tenths off my dial in so actually I was the one holding the door open. My son's been running a Buell M2 off & on for the last 3 years; it runs low 12's and we've raced a few times. I told him I would help him build up his bike or help him buy a vrod so it looks like theres probably going to be another vrod in the family. All I can tell anybody is while winning is sweet I'm still finding more ways to lose; just get out there and freaking Do IT. Pictures will be coming.

Ain't that the truth - I think I could write a book on ways to lose - Oh well it is now time to come up with ways to win - we look forward to your first event win - I have been lucky enough to post 8 event wins and I think twelve finals. I am getting old and the memry just ain't as sharp as it used to be - but I like you am running a stock set-up. There are many differant approached to racing - I am a rider not a builder - very methodical in setup and noit up for a massive amount of work or money in constantly building - I try to keep a very tight discipline in any changes - and I still have a lot of challanges with keeping consistent. We have many good racers at our track - quite a few that travel the circuits for the big money events and also race at Pittsburgh Raceway Park - so I am constantly getting beatup by the big dogs - and sometimes bite back....... It helps whenever I run at the bigger events as there is no intimidation since I get beat up by some of the best all year long. I did pretty good at Norwalk Haloween Classic last year - 48 bikes and only one street bike made it out of first round - we went deep - with only three left standing when we lost our ellimination - also in the race of track champions we made it to the same position - we were the only bike to qualify out of the 17 tracks in IHRA division 3. So I guess the loss learning method pays whenever the pressure builds - I am a bit jealous of Upsman sitting on a big lead - I seem to never have that luxury and have to fight my way up to te bitter end - the championship was fianlized last year in the finals of the last race of the season - I went out in the semis (-.01 breakout - OUCH!) to the fellow that was chasing - Kaw Dragbike - He lost in the finals -he needed to win to tie - skin of the teeth - so again a stock program can take home the money......once in awhile when all the planets line up. My sons are racing a sportster - I know that they would like to be on a VRod - Who won the races between you and your son? When is your next race?

I hear ya, it's definitely win time. The first couple of times out when I my son and I lined up together in practice it was pretty close but his M2 was still no match for my slow a$$. I'll be out at the local track tomorrow night and I'm really looking forward to Woodburn at the end of the month. In the vrod class typically there is 2-3 fast bikes hi 9's and lo 10's and 2-3 others running 11's and 12's; very small class great odds if you're one of the fast guys. I'll be running ET, usually 40-70 bikes and vrod for the first time.
