Well I have been a fan of dragracing for as long as I can remember. My dad would go race his 63 Ford Falcon at the 70-80 dragstrip in MD this had to be in the mid 70s. I realy like to watch NHRA and NASCAR. My father and I are planning to go see an NHRA event. But as for me I never had a car or bike that I felt was worthy of taking to the track till I got the V-Rod. I had some bikes 1980 sportster and a 1969 XLCH chopper my dad and I built together not what you could race.
I moved to North Carolina Sept 2003 after selling a house in Sterling Va. Got a transfer out of the NOVA DC area to a small Post Office in rural NC..
I had made a little $ on the house sale and was able to pay cash for a new house. With no mortgage or no car payments I was ready to buy the BADDEST Harley Davidson ever made! On Dec 28th 2003 I was in greenville NC and there it was a two tone black and siver 100th Annivershary V-Rod. I had been looking and seen some V-Rods in Winchester Va neer my dads but till I sold my house I just could not sign on the line yet. But never had I seen a more Awsome Bike in my life! I had to have that one like right NOW!
After taking delivery of my new toy I rode it most days its not to cold in the carolinas not like back in DC but finaly spring made it and a co-worker told me that her husband went to a local Dragstrip http://www.northeastdragway.com/
not to far away and thay ran cars and bikes too. So I rode on out to see what was up Lots of cool drag bikes, street bikes, cruzers ect.. I just looked around checked it out and knew I would be back SOON!
The first thing I needed was the 28t sprocket according the people on
v-rodforums.com. In the threads I read alot about launching and other peoples Racing experances so wanted to go in with more than just a stock bike so SE 16g pipes (no baffels) and PCIIIUSB (map017)were on the top of my mod list. Leather jacket and gloves were what most were sporting at the strip.
It all came together when my brother was down on vacation and was more than ready to see his big brother take it to the track my first run ever was a 8.1 a half sec slower than I run now!
http://www.v-rodforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8174
that was 6-25 and I have been back to the track weather permiting every weekend sence!

VotRod - I am looking forward to your feedback on the quickshifter - maybe you can post some pictures and do a review of the product, installation notes etc. My guess is it should be goo for a bit over .1 seconds in the 1/8 and .2 in 1/4 - Chain with real low gearing (I am using 22/66 for 1/4) will get you another 1.5 in 1/8 and .2 in 1/4. I am using a Pingel setup but would probably prefer the DynoJet setup - unfortunately I am too far down the path now....KSP

VotRod - You are a man after my own heart - 75/80 Dragway in Maryland - my office is in DC - I trailered down one week and stopped there for a test and tune - Cornfield Drag Racing I called it - I actually almost went into the cornfield at the end of the track as a result of a somewhat casual shutdown and not anticipating the limited shut down - which became apparant as I crested the hill and noticed a the cornfield approaching rather rabidly - I was riding a 10 second rice rocket that I had pretty limited seat time - better than a strong cup of coffee for getting the heart going.... So how did you get that extra half second off of your time - and have you been running elliminations or just doing test and tune runs - Have you won any elliminations yet? and do you have plans for any additional mods for the machine - are you using a shift light or shifting off of the tach.... Do you race at one track or travel to various tracks? Do you trailer in or ride and race?

I lost a 1/2 sec after I removed-(8.1s down to 7.6s)
Baffels from 16g (I ran about the same times w/v-mod pipes too)
SS Wind Shild
Mirriors
turn signals
And no dogs ass
I also am starting a tredmill workout to try and drop from 240 hope 50lbs will get me close to 7.0
This Drag Setup is not street legal so I have to trailer up.
I like to trailer so I can bring my boy Jake He is 11 and likes to see dad race.
Also I can bring tools cooler snacks Gear ect.
So far only hav been to 1 trackhttp://www.northeastdragway.com/ (http://)but a 1/4mi is opening soon close by in Creswell NC the name is OuterBanksSpeedway its nearly compleate.
I love the E/T bracket racing the best night I had was about 15 bikes and I made it to the top 5 one win from the finals!
After close to 50 runs Im realy geting good at shifting w/the tach and by rpm sound no shift light yet but may go that way.
As for new mods Id like to get a 200 in the rear,a light weight front rim (Id like a 3 spoke one),drag bars, shift light, rear foot pegs and electric or air shifter.
 :vrod:
Super Kaz
