: Seat for Goofy feet
Moofner 02-04-2008, 12:30 AM New to the forums and need a bit of advice.
I'm about to finally get my first Harley (06 Night Rod) and I'm looking into seats and pillions. The odd part is I need a seat thats going to make it easier to turn my feet inward. When I was little I broke my legs and the doctors had to set them 30 degrees outward, otherwise I'd be super stumpy.
Long story short I have great balance when I walk, but I have to turn my feet inward to make them straight and that puts my knees inward as well.
So any seat that sets me farther back (and that I can get a touring pillion on) would be fantastic. Mid controls and outward feet makes it hard to shift with the stock seat.
Any suggestions?
Diamond Lil 02-04-2008, 12:39 AM I'm sorry there is nothing I can offer to help you out with your challenge, but I'm sure someone here will.
Welcome to the best place on the web!
Lots of great people and more truly knowledgable and helpful folks than anywhere else.

spinedoc 02-04-2008, 08:10 AM It's not a seat suggestion, but you might consider footboards. I have pics in my gallery. They are very comfy and seems to me you can turn your feet any way and still be very comfortable shifting/braking.

Youngzee 02-04-2008, 08:42 AM If the mid-controls are part of the problem I would try a different model.
lakedrunk 02-04-2008, 10:00 AM I was going to say tallboy seat, but violet beat me to it.

You and I must be cut from the same cloth. I have a significant external rotation component to my gait as well.
There REALLY is no GOOD solution. You can try to extend the controls a bit, and an aftermarket shifter peg will help, but there is no good solution for the break pedal. I went so far as to cut the inside front of the heels of my boots to be able to ride my GF's 2006 D. My toes hang down and out off the pegs and I roll my feet inward to shift or rear brake. Works well for me, but it's not my primary ride.
3OliveMartini 02-04-2008, 04:07 PM i would get a bike with forward controls if you havent bought your bike already

Yep What i don't get, it took me about 2 years to pick a BIKE sitting on them moving around..RIDING if available.. The minute I sat on a VERS_A (had to be an A). I knew. Then I shopped for a good deal the rite ONE! That took 5 more months.. 4 more months latter I had to get a Bandit too 1200 CC (it just felt right) SURE i have done things to make them MORE comfortable and fast and good looking but, put your ass in the chair b-4 you buy it! My wife can buy a sofa for looks, a man can't do that..It has to feeeeel right! The V-rod you have is not for you get rid of it..We all make errors!

:them: (Finally the "them" part makes sense.)
Moofner 02-05-2008, 12:45 AM Haha, okay so basically a tall boy seat and make sure I lift my nutsack up before I sit down.
Should be easy to recongnize me then since I'll always be the guy with my hand on my nuts before sitting down!
NightRoder 02-05-2008, 04:50 PM Hey Moofner,
I had some trouble with that too. Probably not as bad as you but I always ended up with pains and cramps when I rode.
I tried a couple different seets. I also saw and sat on MikeP's bike with the Tallboy seat. It definitely makes a difference. I ended up modifying the stock D seat to raise it about three inches and allow me to sit further back. It made a world of a difference.
Good Luck.
Moofner 02-06-2008, 12:51 AM I'm just going to start out with the Tallboy and see where it goes from there. Now the next thing to find is if Harley Dealerships will mail to an overseas P.O. Box.
