When I bought my vrod, it had the baseplate and the sundowner installed already. I just ordered a Saddlemen seat and from what I am told it will not work with the chrome baseplate. So, I am planning on removing the baseplate to install the seat. My question is, was there something in place of the baseplate on the bike before, that I will need to reinstall before installing the seat? Just want to get everything ready so when the seat gets it here it goes on quickly.
Thanks

There is nothing that goes in place of the base plate. When you remove the base plate peel off the rubber pad under it and bolt the fender back down. Install the seat. Nothin to it.

I had a set of HD chrome screws in the empty holes ,turn out that the bolts where too long ,so the fender is damaged untherneath....and if that plate is on there for six years you could expect som damage from sand and polishing along the edge.
Oh ,if you take all the bolts out, take care the whole fenderass wont tip back.
