I'm having air shifter problems on my 06 destroyer. Keep in mind that it sat in the dealer's showroom and never been run till 2 weeks ago. The bike started off shifting good but after 7 runs it started getting stuck in gear and not up shifting. Shifts great with the foot but gets stuck in gear and won't up shift with the air shifter. What I found was the air solenoid was staying open and not releasing the air so the bike would get stuck in gear and not up shift and I would hit the rev limiter. It works find with the the engine off but with the engine running it will get stuck. I disconnected the air line to the cylinder to test it. Everything works find until I start the engine and then try to work the air shifter and it gets stuck in the up shift. The valve will stay open and hold air on the cylinder. With the line disconnected it will let all the air out the tank. Has anyone had this problem before or can give me a idea what to replace/repair first. The solenoid seems to be working but something is making the valve stay open and holding air on the shifter cylinder. I hope this make sense as I'm not very good at writing, typing and putting things on paper.
Check with Pingel. There was a problem with the kill modules on these and I believe they now have a fix or an upgrade for them. This is a common malady with the Destroyers. They should be able to fix you up no problem. Pat.

Thank you, I will call Pingel tomorrow and talk with them. Is there a way I can check the module? When it happens the solenoid valve stays open until I power down the bike and then you can hear it close. Could I take a voltage meter and check for a signal from it? It appears to be killing the engine correctly. Tanks again for your response. Peter
Peter, I'd just change the module, solve the problem and be done with it because the symptoms that occur because of a faulty one are usually intermittent. A spare isn't a bad idea to think about either, especially if you plan to eventually compete with the bike.
These type of problems have been discussed here on the Forum previously and if I'm not mistaken Max had a similar problem with his electric Pingel and solved it.
If you want go to my profile and look up a thread that I started a while back " Notice to Destroyer Owners ". It's no longer posted on the current threads. There's some very good input that you may be able to use, based on experience at the track and could possibly save on the learning curve a bit. There's one reply from a Forum member where 2 kill modules went out in one weekend on separate bikes.
Just my 2 cents. Pat.

I believe you are correct. Everything I tried points to that and it is acting intermittently. I will contact Pingel tomorrow and get one ordered, maybe two. I will let you know for sure when it comes in if that was it. Thank you for your time. Peter
Peter please post what you find out from Pingel after you talk to them. Hey ya never know, it may help someone else down the road. Thanks, Pat.

I had a problem once with my air shifter acting the same way and it turned out to be a heim joint that was sticking. I lubed up the moving pints and let it work in and it worked great after that.

Talked to Pingel today and they confirm that there is a issue with stray voltage in the kill module. I'm to sent the unit in and they will up-grade it and sent it back. You hit it on the nose Pat. Thanks, Peter
Peter, glad to hear. My intent in this section of the forum is to share information and findings regarding the Destroyer as it comes available while they continually evolve at the track.
This is a competitive class and owners / racers understandably are reluctant to share some of their secrets. Hopefully what you learn in the future you can pass on and I'll certainly try do the same. Glad things worked out. Pingel is a stand up company they'll look after you no doubt.

Pat:
My guy said that in many cases there was a ground problem that was helping to cause this issue--the frame grounds not the unit itself. He recommended checking for that first.

Good information here, I had to replace my kill box after it's third pass last spring-2011.
