Does anyone know if these brackets can be removed without cutting them off? These are the brackets behind the shocks on the 02-06 A's.

Does anyone know if these brackets can be removed without cutting them off? These are the brackets behind the shocks on the 02-06 A's.Yes, these can be removed without cutting. Unfortunately, several things need to come off to get at all the fasteners:
outer fender
inner fender
upper shock bolts
mudflap
This is not a "how-to". There are many left out steps (e.g. disconnecting maxi-fuse and battery) you should get a service manual if you plan to do this work.

I have my manual but they are not shown as part of the shock removal instructions. I bought my bike with the bags on them. I am I correct to say that they came with the bike and not the install kit with the bags? I guess my big questions is if they can be removed and have everything go back together ok without them?

The hard bag "outer" supports come with a special upper shock nut that replaces the original nut but the "inner" supports themselves are a stock part. Harley calls these "inner" supports the "fender support brackets" which is confusing because they don't support the fender. These are only used to support the hard saddle bag mounts. Many people that don't use the saddle bag mounts have removed these "inner" supports.

Pictures of these supports and of the original upper shock nuts are shown in Figures 2-120 and 2-121 on page 2-102.

I am also looking to find a set of these, I really just want to look them over & take some measurements. I am trying to mount a set of hard bags on an 07' AW & am going to have some brackets custom made but would love to look at the original ones. If anyone has removed these & doesn't want them...let me know!

Thanks

If you can't locate an extra set laying around, you can order them pretty easily through http://www.zanottimotor.com/ , as long as you have the part numbers.

You can't buy the saddlebag bracket nuts seperately. You can get the stock upper shock nuts.
The original shock mount nut is 48486-01 (MSRP = $4.50 ea) I paid 4.98 for 2.

myneed4speed was looking for the original upper shock mount nuts.

How will these help with mounting a set of hard bags?

If you're looking for the "fender support brackets" for the earlier bikes as HD calls them (right side = 48483-01 and left side = 48485-01) there may be some others here that have removed them. If these are what you're looking for you should post a thread in the "Classified - Wanted" section for "fender support brackets" or "inner saddle bag support brackets".

Stever is that the same part as the listed Shock mount support part (30) in the install instructions of the Saddlebag kit?
Part

I attached the Service parts pageNo the parts I listed in post #13 are numbers 9 and 10 in the attached image from the parts catalog. The shock mounting nut I mentioned in post #7 is number 11. Number 30 in your document is the special nut that replaces number 11 in my drawing. I think that is only available in the saddle bag support hardware kit.

myneed4speed.. Are you looking for the original shock mount nuts? Or the shock mount nuts for the saddlebags? I have the original shock mount nuts when I replaced them to install my saddlebags. Let me know if that is what you need. Thanks

looking at installing an electroglide set.Read post #13 above. As mentioned in that post, "Gravitystorm" doesn't really specify what he was looking for so since you're looking for the same thing, what info or parts are you looking for?

this is the statement I was refering to Stever

I want to custom make my bracketsSince you mention brackets I assume that you're looking for fender supports like what I think "Gravitystorm" wanted (although he never verified this.) However, if you read through the posts you'll see that this thread involved removing these items and the person that started the thread, "myneed4speed", was looking for the upper shock nuts (HD part # 48486-01 and shown as number 11 in the picture attached to post #15). When "Gravitystorm" mentioned that he wanted these also I asked why since they won't help him mount saddle bags.

I'm now guessing that you're looking for the two "fender supports" (HD part #s 48483-01 and 48485-01 and shown as numbers 9 & 10 in the picture attached to post #15). If so, you need to be clear and spell out the part name and numbers. The best way to get these is to post a WTB ad in the "Classified - Wanted" area (http://www.1130cc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=33) and list the name(s) and part number(s) of what you're looking for.

If you want to see pictures of these supports you can search on "fender supports" and look through the posts. An example is the 9th picture in post #1 of this thread (http://www.1130cc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18774).
