: Big Bore Kit Installation
ta2daf2rlife 06-29-2004, 09:11 AM With these BigBore kits such as the "V-Mod" Stage III, would one buy the kit and then have their local harley dealer install the kit or would you have to ship your motor to V-Mod to have the work done?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would have Only an Experience V-rod engine Builder do the Work for you.Someone who's Built a Few Big Bores first! Then make sure they're experienced Tuners with a Proper chassis Dyno. Not very many out there fit the Bill! :2cents:
VrodG 06-29-2004, 09:32 AM Kaz... I was at the local hd shop yesterday getting a set of plugs for the V. While talking to one of the tech's found that Don tilly is doing the machine work and suppling them the needed parts for an 80 ic!!! Wouldn't get into the details but I'll try to stop by and poke my nose in and see what I can find. I'll try to keep this updated. ta2daf2rlife...Don is in NC and one of the top Vrod engine builders!!!!!
o2man98 06-29-2004, 07:52 PM i believe that 80 inch is about the standard size for a BB.

Do you think for the Stg 1 upgrade you need a new clutch and chain drive? At what point do you think the cush and clutch can take the power.

I agree Kaz, I was thinking the same thing based on previous posts (mostly yours)! :stilpoke: I was just posting info from V-mod.
I hear that you need at least a clutch upgrade around 140hp if you plan on tapping all the power :moped:
Rick Nielson 07-09-2004, 05:24 PM I PERSONALLY ONLY HAVE 146 R.W.H.P. 3500 MILES 20 PASSES
ON THE TRACK, 4 DYNO TUNING SESSIONS. AND USE BARNETTS
EXTRA PLATE CARBON FIBER CLUTCH WITH 90 LB. SPRINGS AND
NO PROBLEMS SO FAR. :2cents:
Paul Diener 07-09-2004, 07:25 PM Rick, we have that same clutch to 175 rwhp after that all you need to do is go to 100 lb. barnett springs with same clutch pac. it stiffins the lever a little but is still very ridable. that will get you to 203 rwhp. I haven't made any more hp than that yet!!!!!!!!
BADROD 07-09-2004, 07:33 PM Paul, it's great to see you here. This forum always has a lot of great info and quality questions so if you see anything that would enhance you building my "badrod" just add them to the list. Thanks again Rick for hooking me up with Paul now that I got my local dealer back out of the mix Paul's promised to build me a street monster (as long as I get someone far more coordinated and about a 100lbs lighter to race it) right Paul!!! Jeff

JackInZoar 07-11-2004, 09:47 AM we found the MTC lock-up to be a "must" ,, 150hp thru a m/t shootout tire , the clutch was slipping off the line , then going out the window in 4th and 5th

What combo do you have to get over 150hp?
JackInZoar 07-11-2004, 09:22 PM What combo do you have to get over 150hp?
minor head work , cams , pistons , dyno tuned pipes , opened up the stock throttle bodies , replaced stock pump and injectors ,, I believe thats the extent of the laundry list ,,,, done by star ,, but lots was done "post star"
V-Rod I FL 07-23-2004, 04:44 PM I'm running the same Barnett extra plate and 100lb spring package and haven't had any problems.
I'm just shy of 140 hp (135) because I want to ride it more and then dyno fine tune it.
ALSO, I'm using the stock belt. If anything happens I'll go to the newer belt that is in the 28 tooth kit. It's supposed to be as much as 2 times stronger.
Regards.

I'm having Chopper Steve do my s1430cc stage 2 stroker/big bore right now.
1/4" (6mm) stroked crank
Wiseco big bore
.480 lift cams, porting, throttlebody, race tuner, etc. and an extra plate clutch kit. I'll let you know how it comes out. I'll be using a Supertrapp. (total $8000 including shipping)

ARE THEY USING STROKER RODS?
ChopperSteve 11-18-2004, 05:52 PM No, Carillo Rods, stock length. The Pistons are Stroker Pistons.

I believe it's to be 155 and 114 but don't know if it is at the rear wheel. it will be dynoed before it returns.

THAT SHOULD BE AT THE REAR WHEEL.
VrodG 11-19-2004, 06:59 PM Is there different rod lenghts and piston pin location for strokers motors? Pros and cons of these setups?
ChopperSteve 11-19-2004, 09:53 PM Now there's a good question! The good people at Wiseco are using a two ring piston, which means you can move the wrist pin up with out moving the ring stack up. Then you can keep the stroke-rod ratio more in line with what has proven to work [ IMHO ]
Shorter Rods can work, its just so diffacult to get the spark curve spot on [ again, IMHO ]
Best: Steve
ChopperSteve 11-19-2004, 09:54 PM Diffacult?, now I know I had too many Beers!
VrodG 11-22-2004, 12:51 PM This should be eaiser on the piston skirt and rings too.... How far are the pistons in the hole at tdc, and are both cylinders the same?... also how about clearance with valves?
ChopperSteve 11-22-2004, 02:06 PM Same Deck Height. Same Valve reliefs as the STD Big Bore Piston. We have 14:1 that are Gas Ported, That get a little close. But if you don't retard the exhaust too much, your golden.
thanks: Steve
