That looks better...see if HD makes a hard/rigid bags like those I'd buy one. IDK why the dyna's and sporties have better oem bags than the v rod line...I saw one particular dyna bag that I really like, it a rigid leather covered type, but has a nice shape to it.

This one, but without the reflector:

Swap them left to right so the pointy end faces forward, rattle-can the white inserts copper and you'll be good to go.

I wrote to the company explaining that IMHO V-Rod riders are a very sport oriented group and I truly believe would appreciate the option of their bags on our motorcycles. The anodized pic above was attached to the email. They responded the next stating that they are preparing their 08’ photo shoot and will consider using the V-Rod for this line. They were grateful for the heads up.

I just pulled my NR bags off my crotch rocket and test fit them on my V. Took about six minutes. No problem at all on my bike but I'm turbo'ed so don't have any pipe clearance issues. However, using what I laughingly refer to as my memory, I really don't think there'd be any clearance issues with stock pipes.

Good luck.

And I do hope that Nelson Riggs does do a V-Rod in their '08 add campaign as it would be very interesting to see how they put it together.

I tried a lot of throw over bags on my bike before buying the HD hardbags. Some, like these, looked decent. You really have to try them on the bike to see if the straps work with the seat and if they fit in the angle of the shocks. However, all the bags I tried would rub against the sides of the fenders, and even if they came with foam protectors they would scrape the paint when dirt gets between the bags and the fender. You really need saddlebag supports. V-Mod sells them (and bags), but they must be bolted to the bag support brackets and are like the HD hard bags in that they are not easy to remove. Check out this members solution:

Hey guys, we are a new vendor to join your forum. We were asked to show some of our products on V-Rods.

Here are a few quick photos we took on our last visit to our local H-D dealer. We fitted our CL-150 tail pack and CL-950 saddlebags to a Night Rod.

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i41/dgreekman/CIMG2784-1.jpg

As for scratching, its not usually the bag that causes this. Its what comes in contact between them and the paint. Dust and road grime. Its always a good idea to wipe down the bike after each ride and before each install. These bags come with a protective pad to help protect the paint.

nelsonriggusa

CL-950 has an outer pocket and a tricot lining. Tricot is a soft flannel like material. The CL-1000 has a nylon lining.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I can see in one of the pictures that it's thrown over the rear fender, if the luggage rack was there it would make sure to not scratch that part of the fender.

nelsonriggusa
01-14-2008, 12:26 PM
The rack is totally optional. The great thing about our tail packs is that they clip right into our saddlebags. No need for separate mounting. Of course if you just ran the tail pack solo, it would mount independently to the bike.

We also offer these same or similar bags in our Silver Streak line (http://www.nelsonrigg.com/pages/Sport-Touring-Products/Sport-Silver-Streak.htm). The bags that this post was originally started for. They would look amazing on a silver V-Rod.

The 1000's don't have a certain kind of liner. They got the same external material and rain covers, so I saved about $40.00

I ordered the 1000's today from Dennis Kirk. I'll have them Thursday and will try and post pic's of the installation on my '07 AW.

I received the Tailbag that goes with the saddlebags today.....it's got a ton of room......I'm looking forward to a trip from PA to The Dragon in May.

The links worked - thanks. Now to decide. Did you see any concerns with any of the bags you got? I have a passenger pillion (will the tail bag effect that? - your opinion). Thanks.

Steve
01-19-2008, 06:38 AM
The way the Tail bag attaches to the saddle bags is with 4 clips. I think that if you adjust the cross over straps between the saddlebags and attach that clips correctly, the pillion seat should not be a factor. I've attached pic's of how I've attached the bags to the bike and also the additional bungie clips that come with the tail bag. Those are for connecting the tail bag to the bike without the saddlebags being used.
I think it's a great system.

Steve
01-19-2008, 10:08 PM
I haven't ridden with them at all yet, so I don't know what kind of paint damage to expect. According to Nelson Rigg, the neoprene pads that are in contact with the bike are designed to prevent paint damage. I guess it's going to be a leap of faith that I'll have to take.

As I get some miles on both the bags and the bike I'll keep y'all informed.

Just ordered mine from DK - thanks Rob for the links. As for scratching the paint, as long as you clean the paint prior to applying the bags and strap everything down tight you shouldn't have to worry.

My tank bag has the pad also and I've ridden in hours of rain with it and it was moving around (although I was trying to keep it straight), and there were no scratches or anything so I'm not too worried about these bags - especially since they probably won't be permanent.

i have thought about that since i am about to change my set up to a NO rear signal set up myself.. when i figure it out .. i will let you know.. LOL... honestly though .. the front ties are most important anyway so if i didnt use the back ones i think it would be fine as well

that being said though i would probably still tie to my frame and then my shock for the back just for stability

lakedrunk
01-20-2008, 03:16 PM
just from looking at pictures it doesn't seem to me that the back needs to be tied down real tight, it looks to be more so the bags don't flop around at higher speeds

3OliveMartini
01-20-2008, 03:32 PM
and if you have enough crap in them .. i think they wouldnt move

nelsonriggusa
01-21-2008, 05:38 PM
Your right, the front and rear straps just need to be tight enough to hold the bags against the bike. The majority of the weight is on the thick Velcro straps that attach the bags together. There are a lot of people that only use the front straps and the bags stay put. Of course as manufacturers, we recommend using both front and rear straps. Again you don't need to torque the front and rear straps down. A snug fit is all you need.

As for the concern of scratching the paint, as Elpaso correctly stated, as long as you keep the paint clean and free of road grime and dirt as best as you can, the pads will definantly help reduce any chance of damage. Even the Velcro straps that go over the seat have a non-slip, non-scratch material that we use under our magnetic tank bags.

Yeah I looked at all the options. The only thing is the CL100 tailbag ony holds 29 compare to the 37 of the tote. I know its not that big of a change ,but I like the tote and the CL100 is 1 inch longer than the tote I was a little worried about it crowding me, judging by your pics it might hang over a little more than the tote. I'll do some more looking today and see what I can come up with. I may bid on some Motopak stuff on ebay.
