Bought a universal RAM mount for my digital camcorder. Hmmm, let's try it on a recent lunch time ride down a local road. Connected the mount to the V-Rod's left bar and pressed the record button. Road is a little bumpy in places. There are several posted 15mph curves . The pace is spirited yet sane :). My first bike video. Won't be packing my bags for Hollywood anytime soon. :vrod:.

I wanted to add one other comment.

I think you just cost me some bucks.

Heading out to Best Buy with my girlfriend to look at digital movie cameras in a little while.

I can't totally blame you though. I've wanted one for a long time now. I think your movie just pushed me over the edge.

And I just wrote a check out for last months mods. WHEN DOES IT END?

Who would thought that buying a Vrod would require by a video camera as a mod?

Ok group, We need stats and prices on the new cameras, which ones look best on the Vrod (do they come in chrome?), how to mount, and of course can we do a group buy? :mrgr:

sfarson,
If we are going to market this to Hollywood we are going to need some stoppies and wheelies and nudity :diablo: other than that the vid was great and like the music too :thumb: Great job :mrgr:

Holy Smoke! That is awesome, and inspiring. THANK YOU SO MUCH for that post. Geez, I'm moved. I think it takes a biker to be moved by that, but that is AWESOME. Great choice of music, I hope I dream this tonight because it rained here after work today so no riding tonight.
Whew.

I found the song:
Jars of Clay
"Frail "

Sorry for the tardy response and thanks everyone!

Yes, the tune is "Frail" from Jars of Clay. They are a Christian band. Can be downloaded from Walmart.com or your favorite supplier of music online. Here's the link to Frail for 88 cents at Walmart.com... Jars of Clay - Frail (http://musicdownloads.walmart.com/catalog/servlet/SearchServlet;jsessionid=AOXofW2K32fpL4f5UBa8o7A2NFB3Xxc6MbDoiXdBIsabLCls9XrJ!-1785241874?term=Frail&action=song&x=15&y=9)

The mount I bought for $30 can be seen at the Aerostich website... Aerostich Ultra Mount (http://www.aerostich.com/riderwearhouse.store/40ce7d2517c0c904271ed1f0ec07069e/Search/Display/1). Item #2677 halfway down. Very ingenious -- seems to be able to connect to anything at any angle, while still providing an upright connection for your camera.

You know, I've viewed the video numerous times and I enjoy it every time. As someone noted, it's like a virtual ride, or, it's reliving a favorite ride. FWIW, I ride with someone who sticks a beat up old digital camera on a mount, capable of capturing 15 seconds of video at a time (Many digital cameras can do this). This is all you really need. He captures outstanding rides from this combination and with the clips at 15 seconds in length appended to one another it appears as though it was nicely edited.

Anyway, here's to fantastic V-Rod riding!

sfarson, that was the most awesome ride video I have seen yet on this site. The music you chose synched perfectly with the curves in the road....sooo cool. It actually helps me to fall asleep while visualizing my favorite routes. I hope you continue this and that others are inspired to get vid techie and share their favorite parts of their hometown or across the world. I could see a separate thread just for those kind of contributions. Thanks.

I agree.

I hope to share some too after I figure out how to operate the JVC I just bought and to download video. I think editing and adding titles and music is a long way away though.

This is great site feature. In the winter or on a raining day, we can log on to V-rodforums and go for a cruise and really feel like you're there.

Thanks again sfarson.

sfarson,

Thanks for the information on the camera mount. I just checked it. Nice!!! Ordered one for myself too.
What would all these companies do without all the free advertising they get?

Take care

See, now everyone's gonna want to go for a ride with us here in Colorado :plause:

The video's great, but now I want to ride that road! Is it in Evergreen? I found N. Turkey Creek, does it change names, or is it a different road entirely?

I'm looking forward to seeing more of these, virtual rides around the country, how cool!

Thanks Steve. I just watched the video again, and I'm listening to the music as I type. Makes me want to ride in Colorado.
Good Job.
I was wondering about the camera. Does it have digital image stabilization?
I'd love to see you do the same video with a camera that can take out some of the bumps if that's possible.
I'm going to have to do some camera shopping. See what you started? Thanks again for sharing your video.

You doing this at lunch prompts an immediate question: Have you got any openings where you work??............Also, if this is lunch, I'd love to see what dinner is like............great job!!

The digital camcorder is a Canon Elura 50. Bought it for the small form factor (easy to squeeze in pocket and take on a bike ride). It does have image stabilization, and actually it came out better than I thought it would... as I was going down the road the camera was shaking from the bumps and wind.

Also, I noted at the beginning I attached the camera to the left handlebar. Correction... I tried the handlebar initially but then switched to the left mirror stalk. I needed to get going and didn't have time to get it just right on the handlebar. This could have enhanced the vibrations. Next time I will...

1). Video a ride on a road with less bumps. See how much of a difference it makes.
2). Experiment with different mounting locations. Bet the mirror stalk is not the calmest place to attach a camcorder.
3). Work with the sound. I was hoping to capture the V-Rod exhaust growl in the background of the soundtrack but there was too much wind noise captured by the camera. :hmm:. Too bad. The bike sounded great during portions of the video. May have had a strong head wind that day.
4). Try capturing video from a digital camera. See how this works versus a camcorder.

I connected the camcorder via Firewire (USB also works) to my Windows XP box. Microsoft Movie Maker recognized the attached camera and I asked the software to "Import Video". Movie Maker breaks the video into clips which you drag/drop into a timeline, along with any music or still images you want to integrate. Very intuitive. Still have much to learn. As others have noted... kinda fun thinking of roads/rides to record, music to match the ride, and always having available... a ride to relive.

If interested in viewing, I was on a ride with a sport touring group last Saturday. I <cough> was on my faithful '99 Blackbird. A rider on his '97 VFR with an old Canon digital camera capturing 15sec of video at a time recorded portions of the ride. Note the great sound track he selected for this high energy tour, and what is possible with nothing but a digital camera stuck out in the wind...Central Colorado Ride (http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/phpdirectory/browse.php3?invoke=click&link_id=853&url=http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/uploads/bishops/Bishops.wmv)

If you have a few extra $$$ check out helmetcamera.com. Connect the lipstick camera to your helmet, bike, etc. then to your camcorder in a fanny pack.

Karaf: Follow North Turkey Creek under Hwy 285 where it comes to a T intersection. This is South Turkey Creek where you can turn left or right onto it. It begins off of 285 just after Turkey Creek Canyon near Tiny Town. It is actually old Hwy 285 and goes all the way to near Aspen Park, rejoining Hwy 285 at Meyers Ranch Open Space Park.

Karaf: Follow North Turkey Creek under Hwy 285...

Great! Can't wait to try it (I'll wait for drier weather). Maybe someday we can meet up and ride it together. I'd probably need to make it a same day out and back or loop, so all the way to Aspen would be tough.

Thanks sfarson,

KARAF
