I just got mine and can't believe what I was missing. I thought a poll was in order to find out how many already have them and how many have plans for them.

I kept the dingleberrys with LED's because I liked the additional area of both running lights and break lights that they provide.

The good Doctor is now doing up a set of front turn signals so that I can complete the "LEDs behind smoked covers" look all around.

Thank you Doctor...

I'm just waiting on the parts that I need to redo the dogs ass then I am going to send them all out to doc for the whole setup licence plate light as well..... I think that from a safety stand point doc's lights make the most sence in the world, and from what people say his work is impecable..and that is the only kind of products I want on my bike.....I'm going to have my dad do it to his bike as well ........my dad has one of the nicest deuce's I have evr seen he realy likes chrome.......

Ditto!!! :thumb :thumb

I have the Stage 2, front signals and license plate light from Joe. His lights not only kick ass, his work is impeccable, and he's an excellent guy to deal with. Joe is one of the good guys!

I like his work so much that I just place an order for the rear turn, run and brake lights, which I'll mount on the Rizoma relocators.

To anyone considering going this route (LEDs)...don't hesitate - buy from Joe! You will NOT be disappointed!!

What do you guys think of running only the Stage 2 rear light w/ integrated turn signals and removing the stock signals completely? I like the looks, but do you think it is enough to catch a cager's eye when you are turning? My long term goal is to ditch the dog's ass and lower the rear end. I'd like to get away with not having to relocate the turn signals to the shock (I don't care for that look much), but I'll do it if I have to.

fehrc
12-13-2003, 02:45 AM
I started off with just the Stage 2 light (removed the turn signals and most of the dog's ass) and have recently decided to go for additional signals on the rear (Joe's LEDs mounted to the shock).

To be completely honest I think additional signals are the safest way to go. Obviously, the cleanest look is just the Stage 2 and it does provide signal lights. But on a real bright sunny day they are a little tough to see. Don't get me wrong, they are bright but it is just one row of LEDs and I don't think most people are used to looking at the taillight to see the signal lights.

I guess what it comes down to is how well you want to be seen. While the Stage 2 signal lights are visible, I wanted to be more visible on a bright sunny day and therefore went with the extra turn signals.

I have the stage II & removed the rear signals and like the looks alot
(see http://www.v-rodforums.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=1097 picture on page 2)

but am still worried about the cagers in the daytime. Am considering adding some small signals over the winter.

You've got to be $h!tt!n me....I ordered mine with the last group buy in November, couldn't mount it till last week when the weather finally broke and I could shovel a trail to the garage to find that the HD Aux brake module issue effected my light. I called the good DR. and he had 2 or three different ways to remedy the situation. He is good people....just call him and/or email him and I'm sure it will get worked out.

I am SO EXCITED!!! My v-light arrived yesterday (thanks, JOE!). Now I just have to get the time to install it. There are excellent directions with PICTURES, so I'm thinking that even I will be able to do this.

No pics of Joe without his pants, tho...

Val

Well, I'm stuck at step 1 here (not surprisingly). Joe's directions say to insert a small screwdrive into the middle hole of the license plate lamp. There's only one hole there and there's nothing in it to push forward and up with a screwdriver that I can find.

Anybody got any ideas what I'm looking for here? There's a metal springclip-looking thing where the license plate lamp meets the fender, but pushing up and forward on that isn't doing anything either.

Z16monte
02-19-2005, 12:02 PM
Yep the metal springclip looking thing is it. First time I took mine out I got a little frustrated. just gotta hold yer tongue right :mrgr: and it will release the light. once you get it out it's easier to see how it works and will come out real easy the next time.

Ed

rjrivero
02-19-2005, 12:11 PM
I took off the fender and used some pliers to compress the spring. I was just afraid of jamming a screwdriver up a dark hole on my V-Rod....If you look at the new light, you will see the metal clip on the bottom. Looks like a clip for a thick stack of papers....

bbmach
02-19-2005, 12:27 PM
It helps if you pull up gently on the light housing as you poke/pry with the screw driver. I wound up taking a good look at Joe's new light to see how the spring clip was situated, and then it came right out on the next try.

It took a decent amount of pressure to release the light.

Good luck!

Dave

Val
02-19-2005, 01:21 PM
Well, moderate success here. I had to get Peter to get the old light out. Installing the new one was NO problem. But, in my usual fashion, I killed my license plates light in the process. Guess I just won't ride at night.

Sure is BRIGHT and V-ful!

Thanks for your help, guys -- looking at the springclip on the new one was the key.
