I was cleaning up my 'Rod today after a hard night of Bike Week activities and I blew a small metal nut out of the radiator scoop. Looking at it closer, it looked it held the chrome trim on the shroud. I stuck my hand in the scoop to clear some more stones and another one of the chrome trim mounts broke off. I barely touched it...
Now I have two nuts with stubs of plastic and a loose trim piece at the top of the right side shroud. Damn!
Anyone else notice this??? I'll talk to the dealer about covering the replacement under warranty.

I spoke to a friend of mine who works at an HD dealer and he told me that
when they remove that chrome cover from the radiator 2 out of 4 will be
broken.I ask how to remove them for painting purposes and the reply I
recieved was "very carefully".

I've got an '04 with only 1,020 miles and my right shroud is loose also. Had the bike in today for the 1,000 mi service and they have ordered a new one for me. Under Warranty. No cost to me to replace. Hope this helps. Service guys said that this is pretty common, the little tabs break off and have to be replaced.

Thanks pkorns, qcwiz. I talked to my mechanic and he said it should be warranteed, no problem. Then he drops the bomb that he's going back to Milwaukee because of family problems!!!! $hit!

You still should not have any problems, I am getting my service and warranty done at HD Atlanta. Bought the bike at Heritage cycles, in Ft Walton Beach, FL! So far the guys in Atlanta have done me right on service. But their bikes must be dipped in gold, they charge so much!

Here's some 411 for ya.....
I put the Supertrapps on last week in conjuction with the PCIIIusb
(Amazing set-up .... TT issues......
Anyway, set-up some Dyno time @ Glendale Harley to get er dialed in.....
} The phone was as such: " Hey Lenny, we're tryin' to Dyno your VROD
and beyond stock PCIIIusb set-up she overheats, which means we can't get
a "Beyond Stage II / dyno set-up" (with the Supertrapps on and dialing
my bike into total NIRVANA and Horsepower-ness) meant there was some-thing perculiar going on.......
The only thing we could think of was.....

SO......
I am removing the "shrouds' manana(tomorrow) and re-scheduling some
more DYNO Time.
AS things stand right now..... I've been riding the last week with the radiator covers on (keep in mind I'm a weekend rider) and for what its worth I think its BS .. BUT... I met a guy at The Rock store with the tricked out green VROD and he said that he remembered back in the day when
slight obstruction to the air intake on the GT-40 created MAJOR havoc
with the OVERHEATING....
I am very curious and have to wait for the verdict and will
take the covers off Monday nite, make a date with Dyno and see if there is in fact an issue with the "shrouds"-(radiator covers)

O.K. Yes, this is a poor design from the factory. I have broken many. As to a fix? I don't know. H-D did not think ahead. Yes we will take this apart, and do our own things. Later SKI.
