Thanks to an intro from Kaz; turns out his engine builder Sam Terranova lives about 15 miles north of me. So, Mr. Engine went to meet Mr. Terranova yesterday. After some pretty serious and in-depth discussion we decided on the following setup: 1320, flow the heads, cams about one step friskier than stock. On his recommendation, we're staying with stock valves, springs, and throttle bodies.
I've gotta tell ya; this Sam guy is the personification of the word "gentleman". He's very quiet and understated about his accomplishements at his craft. He listens very carefully to the customer and asks very pointed questions about how the bike will be used. I've got a real good feeling about this. The fact that Kaz's Bonneville bike was sitting there in his shop was a real confidence booster, too. (Kaz: I love ya bro but you gotta do a better job of washing the salt off. I think there was a herd of deer trying to force their way into the shop so they could lick your bike.)
Having test ridden one of Custom Performance's turbo setups (They're about 15 miles south of me.); I was giving that arrangement some very serious consideration. The damned thing can bend time and space. But, after a lot of soul searching I finally decided that:
1: Not increasing the number of moving parts on the bike is probably a good thing.
2: Not running the engine oil though a turbine @ 9.65 bazillion deg F is probably a good thing.
3: I just couldn't bring myself to screw with the looks of the bike. IMHO the V-rod, as it comes from the factory, is one of the handsomest creations of mankind.
So, here we go. I'll keep you posted.
Anybody got an RT map that might get me started with the above setup? I'm running sorta-topless with modded SE slip-ons.
