Don't know if this is the right area or not but super kaz in here so I thought I'd see. Chain secondary? Haven't seen any mention of one here for the rod. Put one on my custom and all my troubles were gone. Haven't broke a belt yet, but the way I ride I know it's only a matter of time. Any kits anyone knows about?

You would have to ride pretty hard to break these belts. BadRod is putting over 165 HP through one and it hasn't broken yet. Chains are a waste of good $$$ IMHO unless you need it for clearance issues.

I understand about the strength of belts, my custom is just a little over 100 ft pds torque 200 tire same as my rod and I went through kevlar belts like crazy, went to the diamond huskey chain and it stretches but doesn't break. This won't be an issue till I break one if and when, just was curious as a backup. Any body else with belt issues?

I have been running a chain on my bike for some time now. I have a 520 chain and started with a 21/51 ratio, but I am now running a 22/55. The larger gear in back give more clearance over the swingarm and allows peg mounts to be used. The Peg mount does require modification to allow for chain clearance. I use a Dished rear sprocket. I largest stock chrome version I could find was 51 tooth. I was able to get anything up to 55 tooth in aluminum through Zippers (I beleive it came from BPI).

The next challange you will have is a chain guard since the chain is much lower than the belt.

If you are going to try anything like this, I have a 21 and 23 tooth front sprocket already welded onto the output flange that I would be willing to sell.

The reason I went to a chain was to allow a 8.5 in wheel with a 240 tire on a stock width swingarm.

I think you'll find that the belt used on the V-Rods is a lot stronger than the belts used on the air cooled bikes, regardless of their construction. Like I said, there are a number of bikes running the stock V-Rod belt (you could upgrade to the '05 SE belt, it's even stronger) with 100 + torque and 160+ HP without any failures, stretching, etc.

Take a look at some of the launches Jeff's (BadRod) bike has been subject to. Soft, sticky tires and sub 10 second passes as well as 240+ HP nitrous dyno runs without a single belt failure.

My dealer charged me $950.00 to replace the primary chain. He wouldn't warranty it because of my non-HD chrome valve stem caps. Good thing my dealer is honest.

As stated above Turbo tec USA,or Kosman Specialties are my choices for chain drives!:kaz:
