I think that someone was asking about their hoses collapsing when cold. I found this.

V-Rod Cooling System Issues
There have been reports from the field of rubber cooling system hoses collapsing when
the engine cools down. This issue has been traced to size variation in the filler neck
area of the Coolant Pipe PN26768-01 restricting the operation of the vacuum valve
function of the coolant Pressure Cap PN 26733-01.
To diagnose the condition, measure the small I.D. of the filler neck. It should measure
between .705” and .725”. If the I.D. is smaller than .705”, plug the pipe with a suitable
size piece of shop rag or other material to trap metal filings. Use a grinding burr or other
suitable cutter to enlarge the opening to the correct size. Remove all grinding residue,
then top off coolant as specified in the Service Manual. This will allow the vacuum valve
to open, drawing coolant from the reservoir back into the cooling system without
collapsing any hoses.
There have also been reports of cracked or pinched coolant pickup tubes in the coolant
reservoir bottle. This may result in the coolant level rising above the full mark on the
coolant reservoir or coolant blowing out of the overflow tube. If the pickup tube is
restricted or allowing air to enter the system, the cooling system will not pull fluid from
the reservoir when the engine cools down.
The reservoir Cap and Hose assembly is available separately under PN 61813-01. We
recommend checking the condition of the reservoir cap and hose at PDI and whenever
the vehicle is in for service.

Mine showed these symptoms yesterday while stuck in traffic. It started to drip antifreeze and when I pulled over to check what was up and noticed through the side cover that the coolent bottle was full to the top! They must not have the overflow tube routed very well because it ran all inside the radiator cover assembly and then all along the bottom of the bike. What a sticky mess. :hmm:

ctvrod you are correct and that information is in a bulletin on the http://www.v-rodforums.com/bulletins page titled 20031103v-rodcooling.zip

Hello, is there a recall on this or is this just a bulletin??? I am fighting with my HDservice advisors on this. My bike went in for 10,000 mile service and they are now telling me that I need a new hose part # 26768-01 ($134.00 and a 10-15 day wait). I called local dealers and found a local part, but remember reading these issues on the forum. I called them back and explained to them that the part needed probably is the cap 61813-01 (nipple broke) and the price for that is $24.00. He said, no the tech said the hose is leaking. Should I fax them over this bulletin because they have never changed replaced any before and not sure about any recalls on this issue???
Thanks in advance for the help, Jason

A bulletin is not a recall, these are for information so that a tech can be better armed to repair a problem. The only recall that I am aware of on the v-rod was the fuel flange on some 03 models.

Thanks Maxx, I will call my Sevice advisor and if it is the hose that needs to be replace (due to cracking etc.), I will have him also order or replace the cap part # 61813-01.

Hey Max, is this a bUlletin give to HD service Techs? Is it something listed on the HD net?? My dealer has had my bike for 2 weeks now and are having problems with my coolant hose area. I told them about this bulletin and they called me today and said that they have never heard of any bulletin. Can you tell me where this bulletin is listed so that I can point them to it. I was getting my 10,000 mile service and I believe when the tech had to remove my coolant over flow bottle to adjust my front cam he broke or damaged my hose (26768-01). Before the service, I did not have any leakage or problems, they are not owning up to it but it seems a bit Fishy.
Thank you in advance.

I printed it out and showed it to the techs when I went to get my leaking cooling system fixed for the second time. They said they've never seen it but thanked me and did the checks described although the hoses were within the specs.

My techs think I making it up and keep blowing me off as if it was something I did to damage the hose. I will wait for Max's reply and then fax it to them. The paper does not have any HD logos or info on it.
