: Destroyer Engine
FYI:
Just got a fax today from H-D Motor Company...Destroyer replacement engines are available to order until 11/15/05!!!
Now the catch; these orders are available ONLY to dealers with Destroyers on order already. Also, the motor (part #19627-06K) is a VIN restricted part...you must have a Destoyer VIN or order number to get this motor!
This squanders the idea of buying a motor and building a bike...but I guess we should've known that wasn't gonna' be easy anyway!!!
BTW, motor MSRP is $11,995.:broke:
kspz3 11-01-2005, 04:19 PM There has got to be dealers out there thaat would be willing to sell a spare motor for you..... KSP
Cheatin 11-01-2005, 04:27 PM Wow, who's going to buy the first one at that price? I learned my lesson in '02 and losing my already poor ass. :popcorn

I won't need them to, I'll be riding Frontier HD's Destroyer! You're probably correct, I imagine some dealers may sell the motor to consumers...if they can find a buyer.
mjw930 11-01-2005, 11:13 PM It just stands to reason that if a dealership or a professional team is going to campaign a Destroyer with the goal of winning a championship then they MUST have a second engine in the trailer. That's pretty much standard issue for the big teams. You can't risk losing points because of an engine failure while you wait for a rebuild.

YOU CAN BUILD A MORE POWERFUL MOTOR THAN THAT FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY.THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON RACE MOTORS.BESIDES THE HEADS ARE RACE HEADS AS WELL AS THE CAMS AND
NOT TO MENTION THE HIGH COMP. THAT COMBO I THINK WOULD PERFORM POORLY ON THE STREET DOWN LOW.

Exactly.
mikelewis 11-02-2005, 04:21 PM ...........but how friendly would the Destroyer chassis be to "between rounds motor changes"......all of the aftermarket chassis manufacturers assume that pro level racers are going to want this feature so it's offered as an option on their chassis.
VRTURK 11-02-2005, 10:10 PM Rick,
how bad would it dog on the street at lower revs? Yeah it's a powertrain tweaked for the track, ported, stroked, tuned, etc, but would it really "suck" that bad on the street.
HooliganVrod 11-05-2005, 10:04 AM I've ridden ours around. The motor is streetable with no problems in my opinion.

IF THE BIKE IS TUNED FOR THE STREET AND RIDDEN ON THE STREET WITH
NO PROBLEMS I'D BE SUPRISED,BUT I'VE BEEN SUPRISED BEFORE.
I STILL THINK THAT EAGLE H.D. HAS PROVEN MANY TIMES ANY VROD ENGINE
WITH THAT MUCH MONEY SPENT ON IT ($12, 000.00) BETTER RUN LOW NINES WITH OUR CLEAN UP BOY RIDING IT!COURSE HE PUT BADRODS IN THE
HIGH NINES WITH JUST 10 OR SO PASSES.
V-Rod I FL 11-05-2005, 10:45 PM Rick:
Do you happen to know if HD is using a SERT on the Destroyer?? Based on the description it would seem to be "enhanced" considerably compared to the current version the we all can buy!! If so it may be what we'll see next as the Dyna "Dual Bung Technology " expands next year.
Regards
Peter 11-06-2005, 09:04 PM If I sent my V-ROD and a check for 12 grand out to Eagle HD I am 100% sure that Dan Bell and Paul Deiter would send me back a machine that would eat a Destroyer for lunch.
You can bet that Jamie Mac's drag bike, built by Eagle HD, is already faster than a factory "Destroyer".

You need to do a whole lot more then 12k to a V-rod to go LOW 9'S My freind:whack: !I'll take that Bet:bs: !
kspz3 11-07-2005, 09:07 AM Kaz- you can only do so many things to a vrod engine - rods, heads, pistons, valves, cams, crank - bore, stroke. and polish stuff. It is the development and experimenting that is expensive (and of course no one knows that better than you) - once you have it down then things get a bit simpler (and cheaper).
Peter - Now the real comparison is not your vrod and 12K - since you have about 7 into the stock (as I recall the cost of a new stock engine that is)- so you only get 5k to play with - but if you sent a check for 31k - if you had no vrod - I am sure they would send you a very fast bike back..... and a street version at that (i.e. pump gas).

That is exactly what I was thinking. In a lot of ways, the Destroyer motor is not a bad deal considering the base price of the stock VRSC motor (not to mention the CVO). I know that if you figure a 7k plus figure to properly BB a V-Rod, you are way over the 12K price of the Destroyer motor.
Don't get me wrong, I have no plans on getting a Destroyer motor (I have other things in mind), but the price ist not really out of line at all.
Peter 11-07-2005, 10:05 PM My bike is already at 140rwhp and my head work is second to none, therefore I would bore another .100 out, probably stroke .500 in. and raise the compression up to 14:1. That, and change my cams again. I am pretty sure that combo would produce 190+rwhp which in turn should produce low 9's with a good light young rider aboard. It would be a little radical for the street though but rideable nevertheless.
And you know what, Eagle HD is capeable of doing this for less than 12 grand.

Not if you had to include the price of the base motor!

What have you been Smoking? 190+rwhp and Low 9's for 12k!:bs:Now if You had a Turbo that would be different:rofl: !

Our v-rods that Larry and Jamie ride have less than 190 hp and have went into the 9.30's with no wheelie bars, no slick and still using a stock crankshaft. If someone thinks thats bull$hit look at AHDRA web site.Anybody that wants to do that for $12,000 bring your bike and cash, or just drop your bike off in Vegas this weekend and trade it in on either bike you want and start your racing right now. Or just come to Vegas with about 25,000 and buy either bike before or after the race. If you want to go faster than 9.30's put on a slick and bars. If anyone buys these bikes Eagle will continue to help the new owner as much as they would like. But let me tell you that before you jump on these bikes and be the number one qualifier you may need some practice because Larry and Jamie are two damn good riders and I think thats alot of the reason Eagle is on top OH YEAH KAZ I almost forgot what I started typing about, why don't you quit talking turbo drag race v-rod bull because I have not seen anything at the dragstrip with a turbo go any faster than our little stock stroke motors (1340cc) yet so until that happens by someone other than Eagle H D why don't you shove your shit back up your A$$ and quit talking and arguing about stuff that hasn't happened and you really don't know anything about.
P.S. To all forum members other than KAZ my last sentence is like that
because I'm getting ready to look for a sponsor for my new landspeed bike and I guess that how you do it. If you guys and gals think it would help if I threw the F word in a couple times and called Vance & Hines idiots and A$$holes on my sponsor hunt let me know.
Thanks

harleypower69 11-09-2005, 11:48 AM well I see that the Destroyer thread went south and devolved into yet another pissing match. Gentlemen....no one wins a pissing contest but all involved get wet and smelly with a fine medley of bodily fluids. My :2cents:
mikelewis 11-09-2005, 12:10 PM perhaps if people simply rolled over and refused to defend their LIVELIHOOD over and over and over and over then we could all get along......shame on you Paul......
harleypower69 11-09-2005, 12:26 PM point taken mikelewis....I don't have a ref. point for a need to defend my livelihood... I never encourage rolling over. Just a shame to have an informative thread turned into something personal. It is all about repect. I admit to suffering burnout here from this negative stuff.
mikelewis 11-09-2005, 12:35 PM I don't think there is anybody here that likes the negative stuff any more than you do....I know I don't.....but when something negative is said, true or untrue, that can affect another man's income or quality of life, especially amongst such a small, tight group as ourselves, then it becomes a "first blood" issue....and I don't blame a man one bit for defending that quality of life.....Even MORE so when the negative things are NOT true....or just sour grapes, jealousy, or whatever....
harleypower69 11-09-2005, 12:50 PM I agree totally with you. Thank-you for sharing that.I wish you a fast season Mike. Do you ever race out here in AZ @ the Firebird ? We have all Harley drags during bike week out here in the spring.
mikelewis 11-09-2005, 12:54 PM I've never been there but I've heard good things......We're looking at some things for next year that could potentially include some far away races like this.....If we come, you'll know it ahead of time and I'll expect you to hang out with us in the pit for the duration......
Is that race AHDRA?
harleypower69 11-09-2005, 01:03 PM Yes, AHDRA and not only would I be happy to chill with your team but also happy to host you and show you the desert too. Keep in touch....we have a healthy V-rod riding group out here.
mikelewis 11-09-2005, 01:12 PM That would be fun, provided we have the time...we've always got a couple of demos in the trailer.....

YOUR ASSUMING THAT I COULD BUY NUMBERED CASES FROM THE FACTORY WHICH REQUIRES ME TO RETURN TO THEM THE FIRST NUMBERED CASE IN EXCHANGE. BESIDES ONLY DESTROYER OWNERS WILL GET THE MOTORS AND I'LL CHECK IN THE MORNING ABOUT DESTROYER CASES.I SEE YOUR POINT, BUT NOT A FAIR COMPARISON, NOT UNTILL ANYONE CAN BUY THEM. OR AT LEAST CASES. GIVEN THAT MORE THAN THEY SUPPLY,HELL JAMIE AND LARRY'S BIKES MAKE MORE POWER PUT A SLICK AND WHEELIE BAR WITH A 2 STEP ON THEM WITH A RIDER AND RUN LOW 9'S ALL DAY LONG. COME TO VEGAS WITH $25,000.00 I'LL BET YOU COULD TAKE ONE HOME!
BUT DONT THINK YOU CAN JUST JUMP ON IT AND RUN THERE NUMBERS
WHO WAS THE RIDER WHO JUMPED ON SOMEBODY ELSES BIKE AND WON THE E.T. CLASS WHILE BEING RUNNER UP IN A PRO CLASS AT THE LAST AHDRA RACE.(BOTH BIKES ARE EAGLE MOTORED VRODS).

Rick - You can buy a new VRod engine - If you let it go at dealer cost - since you are not making profit on the engine at this point - then probably have an 7,500 or 8,000 budget to work with for mods..... or if you sold the engine at retail then about 5,000 in mods. I am assuming that you could put a pretty nice package in that range - buyer could sell stock engine for probably 4,000 - netting 8,000??????
