When you guys added this kit to your motor was there a big differnce in the way the engine sounded??? Does it have a nice lumpy type of idle?? My friend just stroked his fat boy and it reminds me of when I put heads cam and intake on my 5.0 mustang years ago.. It sounds nice and lumpy and you can tell its making some power just sitting there idling.. I'm itchy to do something, I want to wait for a blower but was curious about this.. Thanks for all responses.. Roger

PS Not talking about a 1250 kit like the cvo's have

All depends on the cams; as for mine from the first second I heard it, there was a distinct difference. Makes the old school harley brothers turn an ear. Just by the sound alone they know not to mess with it...lol

Yes there is a dramatic difference. It sounds really mean and with the Rizoma bars moving the sitting position forward running topless adds some deep, rich sounds from the intake sucking in all that air as well!! Jeff

Yup! Mine (also running topless) sounds waaaaaaaaaaaaay different, louder, deeper, and very throaty. 58mm throttle bodies help too! SE 16 Ga. exhaused had to be extremely "modified" to get the 141hp from my 1320 (1318) big bore kit. Wait 'til you hear it open up wide open!!! You'll be glad you did it. Watch out for whiplash....

Mine also sounds different. It has more of a lumpy sound. The sound also changes as the bike warms up. Throttle wide open sounds awesome. :kaz:

Jeff; are you running with or without the stock Balance shaft in you 1550 setup.

Allan, I don't even know what a stock balance shaft is but I will find out for you. Jeff

THERE IS NO COMPARISION IN SOUND, THIS MORNING I PULL THE BIKE OUT OF
THE SHOP FIRE IT UP AND ALL THE CUSTOMERS WAITING OUTSIDE CAME AROUND THE CORNER TO SEE WHAT WAS MAKING ALL THAT NOISE, SEVERAL
CAME OVER SAYING THAT DOSENT SOUND LIKE A VROD. DO NOT REMOVE THE COUNTER BALANCER YOU WILL NOT LIKE THE RESULT!
TAKES 1/4 HORSE TO TURN IT.

I need to modify the counter balancer to clear the front rod. (But it gets pretty thin; I hope it will hold-up)
This is the last unsolved problem I had in the bottom end before I can put it together.

Thanks Jeff and Rick

Great Donald!

She will shake a lot [ 1550 sans balancer ] at idle, but smooth the rest of the way At [50% BF]. So far the modified balancer is working. Only time will tell.

Where does the balanced need to be modified to work with a big bore?
Is it only the 1550 big bore that has issues with the balancer?

I am waiting a while before I choose which big bore setup I want because while I certainly want as much power as I can get I also want a very reliable bike, I can't afford to be fixing it every few months..

I will take some photos before I put my bottom end together, and post them on the forum.

Opportunity knocks! There's an expert in our midst. I love my cvo but I wan't to significantly increase the tourque on the low-end. I've been awaiting info on the forthcoming Turbo from V-Mod. Would that be a good way to go or should I consider a bigger bore kit instead.

I'd like to ask a few dumb questions. I just had a ton of work done to my bike, including CFR 240 kit, CFR pipe and seat, PM wheels, rotors, 6 piston calipers, lowered, chrome, powder coating, etc etc. The bike looks sweeeeet. It ran 111HP at the rear wheel. Not bad. This winter I would like to go after some HP, particularly lower end torque. I love the pull this engine has, but I must admit, I don't exactly ride around town at 9000 rpm. I'm looking for some pull in the lower revs, up to around 5-6k rpm. My first thought is a Zipper 1320 kit. Is this going to give me what I'm after? I'm not going to be drag racing the bike or anything. I want it to be completely streetable and reliable. Also, can I keep my stock belt drive setup??
Thanks for the help...Jon

Oh yeah...It will kick it up a bunch, but you are gonna need to do some head work/cams in my opinion to get the most out of it! Need extra plate clutch, VERY RELIABLE for me thus far and I "dog" it every chance I get!

just picked up my o5 b model this week and my only dislike is the sound of the exhaust.sounds very weak. The stock power is amazing for a v twin.i can imagine what it would be like to install a big bore kit. that will be first mod after the warranty runs out.any suggestions for a better exhaust note will b greatly appreciated.looking for a sound that has attitude with no regards for my buddies next door.

Welcome to the forums! you may start searching for "v-mod pipes" which is very easy to do and you will find what you looking for..

Describe "Stage-2" goodies? There's no Stage-2 for the V-Rod, only different pipes and now a Big Bore kit. None of them carry the "Stage" nomenclature that I'm aware of. Maybe Steve uses the Stage names for his mod packages....

I do Mark, old habit. To sum up A "Stage-2" would have the .485 cams over the .455 cams. Basically a hair less bottom end power and a touch more Top [ rob "Peter to pay Paul" ] You can still run 91 octane and the engine runs smooth. A "Stage-3" would be a "Race Version" of what ever size. 14:1 pistons , light crank train, ect.
Thanks: Steve

What type of starting system goes with the 14:1 compression? I had to go to a 24V 2 battery system on my 13.5:1 Hayabusa...When the bike got hot, the aftermarket 235 CCA battery couldn't start it...
