: Engine Seized!

Thursday night, engine seized with 200 miles on the SE Big Bore. Service Manger at the shop said it looks like the oil pump failed. There was no engine light, but just before it seized, I can to a red light and t sounded like it ate a bucket full of bolts, knocked twice then slam. No workey. Not very happy.
I find out tomorrow a better Idea of what needs to be done and how log it will take. :(

yes, only a week old.

And up to that point, I hadn't really opened it up due to it still being in the break in peiod. Now it Broke, in the shop. It had potential.

You would hope so. Does HD warranty mods like this? Seems like just changing exhaust gets Willie's panties in a bunch when it comes out of his pocket.

My question is, what does putting in a big bore kit have to do with an oil pump failure? That said, dealer told me big bore voids factory warranty but dealer honors warranty including extended warranty I purchased at that dealer. If bike breakes down in another state, have their dealer call my dealer. . .

i was told whatever the dealer installs....factory parts or another manufacturer they will warrenty, since they installed it. now the fun part is sticking it in the dealers ass, demand money back!!!! i'm sure having that bb kit installed wasn't cheap!!! good luck

I have asked to get a CVO engine from the factory. Exact thing doing the big bore creates, but it would be done by the factory and no issues with mistakes. It would save about 20 hours on the installation. That would be = to about $1500. And I would be able to get the bike back in > 2 weeks as apposed to 5 - 6 weeks.

Had an oil pump go once on my BSA, it was like I pulled in the clutch. It ran but lost power, turned out to be metal that jammed the pump gears and was covered under warranty.

Good luck, hope you get back on the road soon.

Can you buy ready to run CVO engines?
I thought the CVO was a "custom" setup?

I would assume the Factory has a replacement engine if a CVO failed. After all I've been thru, that would be the quickest solution.

Just got word from my Service Mgr. Appearently, a bolt on the counter-balancer backed out and is the culprit. It caught the crank and Rod. Only the bottom nd is damaged and He should have an ETA this afternoon for when the parts will be in.

Luckily the engine seized before any damage happened to the top end.

Always look for the silver lining.

YOU WOULD ONLY LOOSEN THE BOLTS IF YOU WHERE GOING TO REMOVE THE
COUNTER BALANCER OR HE WAS FOLLOWING THE FACTORY DIRECTIONS AND
FORGOT DURING REASSB. TO TIGHTEN.

The tech take responsibility. He said it was his mistake and he didn't retighten the shaft bolt.

He was finishing up the bike tonight (working late to get it done) and starting it before he leaves tonight. In the morning, he will do the test ride and I plan on picking it up at lunch.

It is offical. LIFE SUCKS!
Service called me and told me that when they started the bike up, NO OIL PRESSURE! Apperantly metal gott into the pump housing and dinged it. New Oil Pump will be in tomorrow and the bike back together on Friday.

have they dropped the oil pan and cleaned everything. if metal took out the
pump you've got metal in all oil passages!that would have to be alot of metal
to make it fail all together.imho.(also have patience if you want it fixed right.)

At this point, sure sounds like they should split the cases, inspect everything really, to do it properly, or replace the engine. They say metal took out the oil pump, no telling where else the metal particles have gone or damaged. And this engine did sieze on you. I mean we're talkin about an motorcycle with less than what 1k miles?

So how long did your tech have it running without oil pressure? Bearings anyone? Man, sounds like a shade tree hack job that they want to rush out. Screw it man, ask for a CVO crate motor instead. That thing's a POS, sorry to say.

Now I am with Rick on this one. First of all, Your Dealer Screwed up BAD!!! Why in the World would they be in the lower end? Sounds like a Newbe from that school. Now some questions answered for some of the earlier comments. Yes we do split the cases on a BB. The case halves are Horizontal. The Oil Pump must be removed to split the cases. The Balancer is never touched. There is no reason to go into the bottom end unless a part is dropped! Huh? With this said, What has happened here? The Top End only is shipped to H-D. This involves Heads, Pistons, Cams and a TOP END Case bore. Now if you look in the SE Catalog, it states that it will only fit VRSCA-B. There is a statement that says will not fit VRSCR. Did your Dealer see this? Why? I am not sure. I am saying why it will not fit VRSCR Models? As far as a Warranty thing? You are screwed because of H-Ds statement. But hound the Dealer that broke the rules and your bike. Point is, Your Dealer is to blame, And you should NOT have to pay for a thing!!!!!! Later Ski.

I picked up the bike tonight. It is UNBELIEVABLE! The runs like a Raped Ape!

5 gear 70 mph = 4k rpm
@ 100 mph I was right at 7000 rpm!

Doing 60 mph and I want to be in the start of the power band, I need to be in 3rd gear to run 5k rpm.

1st still pulls hard and fast, as does 2nd and 3rd.

I can not wait to get this to the local track and run the 1/4.
