in case you havent seen this bike, check out the mirrors. http://www.v-rodforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20282 this might be a mirror alternative, i kind of like it. i tried it with my stock mirrors and i dont think there is enough adjustment in them to work. i didnt spend a lot of time on the experiment, but the gained visibility was impressive.
does anyone have a variety of mirrors laying around that might be willing to see if they would work on the R? just a thought.

I tried to flip my bar-ends underneath the bar but in the down position they were completely obsured by forearms. Don't know if it would be a problem for other mirror styles though.

I don't have inverted mirrors, however my friend inverted his on a Heritage Softtail classic. The mirrors are actually on the inside of your forearms and provide very nice visibility.
Your bar end mirrors look like they would have your forearm/elbow in the way and therefore cause the same problem as shoulders when they are in the stock position.

Bicycle mirrors I picked up REI. Much better than stock, although I'll probably upgrade to something with better glass.
