I made a sport tourer out of my street rod. Added HD wind shield, HD bags. Laminar lip to wind shield, Tourmaster Gortech bag, soundowner seat that I modified and Gil,s Box.
I got 40 miles to a gallon going 75 to 85 MPH. At that speed your are around 5,000 RPM's and It pulls real hard when passing.
I rode 465 miles one of the days. I spent two days in NC and Ga mountains. Bike is real fun on the mountain roads.
Now I have 4,400 miles on my Rod and I am liking it better and better.

I forgot to mention I installed my Garmin 2610 GPS. It never fails to show me the best routs and back roads.

How did you like the Laminar Lip? A guy at work has one on his Kawa, and you're the first V-Rod I've heard that uses one. I have the smaller SuperSport windshield, and we all know how the blast hits you in the face. Did it help? Is it worth the $75? I'm going to ride from Milwaukee to the Club HOG event in Chattanooga this year, and I'm considering getting one for the trip.

Hey Phil,

Next time take a camera and post your trip on the new "ride reports" section...

Clean V,
Like others here, I'm interested in your comments about the Laminar Lip. Did you use the one for the V-Rod Super Sport, or something else? Any modifications needed to make it fit?

I'm with truperdave on the gas mileage issue. I don't often get more than about 38 mpg, and certainly not at 75-80 mph. What are your settings on Gil's box?

Clean V, that's a REAL trip! I'm interested in hearing about that lip thing, too.

Hey clean... I just purchased a Garmin 2620. I'd be interested to know how you mounted yours.

I used the Laninar Lip from my 650 V-Strom.It worked great with HD windshield.
Kept the noise and wind down to a minumim. I got extra stickons so I can move the lip from bike to bike.

I used a Ram Mount for my 2610 GPS. It requires removing screws that hole on clutch and installing longer 1/4" 20 bolts to hold ball mount. I ran female plug through upper triple tree and connected to 12 V. I do not know how well a 2620 will work on the VRSCR. It has a different hard drive that may give a problem caused by vibration. That is why I have a 2610 with 2 GB card.

My gas milleage was not over stated. I did not hold a steady speed. When I am going to pass a large truck, I lay back and go WOT until I am ahead of the truck. I do not like riding next to those big recapped tires.

Gil's Box is set: 3, 4.5, and 3. I am stock pipes and air cleaner. Have not played with it yet. When I get pipes I will Dyno and adjust. I just wanted to get rid of the surge.

Clean V, How long could you ride at a time with the sundowner seat? I plan to take a trip from Detroit, MI to Lake Tahoe, NV and back this July (apx.5000 miles). I have the stock seat (brick) now, and realize that it won't cut it for such a long trip.

Phil,
Thanks for the great information. I've got to look into the 2610. My Magellan only supports up to 32 MB cards. I would love to be able to carry 2 GB of map information on a single card. I'm going to experiment with my settings on Gil's box. I suspect I can improve my fuel consumption without compromising too much on performance.
