I found these at an American Iron Horse shop here in San Antonio. They looked interesting.Joker's bar-end mirror (http://www.jokermachine.com/itemstreet2004.asp?ItemID=237&CategoryID=5&Placeholder=0)

Cool..

Personally I do a lot of filtering (working your way to the front of queues at traffic lights and getting through traffic jams) through traffic so don't want to make the bike any wider than it already is otherwise I will start collecting car mirrors on my way through..

Is filtering allowed in the US?

Filtering or Lane Splitting is allowed in certain states but most don't allow it.

Check out the CRG LS (Lane Split) bar end mirrors, they pivot so you don't take out car mirrors. http://www.constructorsrg.com/products/street/hindsightLS.html

Actually, your feet stick out much farther than your handlebars or mirrors...this bacame painfully obvious when a truck came into my lane a few months ago. I was just managing to keep my handlebars away from it whilst mangaging to avoid oncoming traffic when my right foot got caught on the bumper of the fuc&er and spun it around and broke it.

Because the V-Rod is so wide, and the footpegs so far forward and apart, it puts your foot at an angle outward. Most cars do 'curve in' with their lower parts, but SUVs, sporty cars, and trucks have tires, body panels and bumpers that stick out where they can catch your feet. I have also bumped a road cone with my newly mended foot that I thought was surely safe.

I am now acutely aware of how wide the V-Rod is and it sucks that the bits that stick out the farthest are parts of the rider. Like whiskers on a cat, most bikes have mirrors, or handlebars that stick out...and if you manage them, you're safe.

I have been thinking specifically about getting bar-end mirrors to extend the 'whiskers' to match the width of my feet (and give me a usable view behind..my mirrors show me a great shot of my own elbows!). These mirrors would be a possibility if they had LED turn signals on them as well. Problem is, they are solidly-mounted to the end of your bars...if you did catch them on something going by, you'd turn right into it. :2cents:

Cheers! :popcorn

It's legal...or rather it's not illegal in California.

Too bad those mirrors are so ugly, they would probably work well. They also don't seem to offer a mount for 1" bars like ours...guess it's back to the drawing board! :D

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. If you have a show bike then these probably aren't your cup of tea but I've always been a function over form person.

Since they use a shim I would imagine that they could make up one to work with our bars. The ID for our bars is 7/8" so if you took some 7/8" OD aluminum pipe, sliced it in half and take another 1/8" off one of those slices it should work fine.

i just installed these mirrors on my R. it would be nice if they were larger, but at least i can see behind me now, no more shoulders. they have flat glass, so you get a true image. the R has about 29 inch bars on it, so the width with the mirrors isnt a problem. they will grow on you! they are designed for one inch bars and are very solid. im happy, but they arent for everyone.

dont do it!!! i bought a pair of those, in fact i just sold them on ebay!
they fit good and are built well, however the mirrors SUCK!
they are so convex that you will get runover misjudging a passing car. they are almost like a "funhouse mirror". if they would put flat glass in them, they would be nice!

You can order them with flat or convex, I am tempted to go with the flats from he over the Joker's becuse of price. It would be $60 cheaper than the Jokers.

"foldable and retractable" - I would have bought a pair except the vendor doesn't respond to queries via his site. But they look like exactly what I need....

i had the hindsight brand mirrors on my buell and they worked great, however they are for seven eighths bars and you have to pad them out for the one inch bars. i tried it and it can be done, but they arent as solid.

in re: the SKYKING mirrors, if they now have the flat glass, they might do the trick. i bought mine about 2 years ago and they didnt have that option. also, the ones that i bought didnt have real glass, it was plastic. maybe they do it differently now. when i re sold mine on ebay, they only brought 40 bucks.

Am I the only person who thinks the stock mirrors aren't too bad? Maybe I have low expectations from looking at my elbows and arms for so many years on so many different motorcycles but I have gotten used to the view. When my bike comes in next week I might change my mind but I didn't have a problem on my three demo rides and wouldn't have even thought to look at the demo bike again but for this thread.

to me, its not so much looking at my elbows as the distortion of the stockers. i realize that the objects are closer than they appear, but i never realized how much until i put the "jokers" on, as they have flat glass. as i said before, if you do a lot of lane changing in your riding syle, the stockers will get you killed. i think these look cooler on the R than on the other models, because of the narrow bars. what do you think?

Here's another option:

Rizoma bar ends, this site has them but they are back ordered. http://www.tricktape.com/product.asp?0=502&1=504&3=3286

My concern was putting on some nicer grips and then not being able to use the bar end mirrors if I felt I needed them. I told the dealer to put the grips on and I will see about the mirrors after I put some miles on my bike, which should arrive on Monday :hyper:

Now we are talking. These are hot looking. I'll be ordering some of these.

Thanks for the info.

re rizoma: im with you, they are best looking of all and i thought about them myself. however: they do not stick out past the end of your hand grips anymore than your stockers do, so its still shoulder viewing time. on the positive side, ill bet the glass isnt as convex as the stockers.
i didnt see your age, but unless you are very young, you wont live long enough for rizomas to arrive, if they are like the rest of the rizoma line. if you notice, it says backordered!

If you flip them upside down, and turn the mirrors out, I bet you'd get a better view. But like you said, from Rizoma, you'd be lucky to get them by chrismas if you order now.

i thought the same thing about flipping them over, but ive not had good luck assumming.
i just bought some front turn signal relocators from dr scum. i ask him if they would fit the R and he said to ask on the forum, as he didnt know. well no one responded from the forum, so i bought them on chance. well, they arrived yesterday and i attempted to install them. you can get them to fit if you do some grinding around the tripple tree pinch bolt hole. so i successfully buggered them up and now they lay on the bottom of my tool box. hey, whats 40 bucks as i would have wasted it on food or something anyway! my bad?
