ive replaced 4 heat shield screws at 2 bucks each.
i would like to know if harley is going to do something about these bikes running too lean. they cough and sputter when cold and then get hot real quick in traffic. i put a gils box on mine and it solved the problems, but i shouldnt have to do that to get the R to run right. everyone i talked to has the same problem. im suprised that more of an issue is not being made about this situation. but then i used to own a 2002 model and i know that they arent supposed to run lke that.
how about it folks, this isnt a problem with your R??

Never seen any problems like that. Mine runs the same cold as it does hot (except for the rev limit when cold). And I've been at sea level and 10K feet. Factory flash, 16ga pipes and SE (K&N) air filter.

I think that's what Dave was saying, his '02 ran fine but the Street-Rod runs lean.

They went through 3 base maps and one IAT relocation before they got the V-Rod right, let's hope it only takes one revision for the S-Rod.

Ski, Same here with the lean condition, any updates or rumors of a screaming eagle flash and exhaust to go with the screaming eagle filter, which seems to be the only screaming eagle factory mod for the R currently available?

Nick

The techs at my dealership said there are not going to be any SE bits for the R but I can't believe that, since its an 06 bike I guess we will have to wait till next year for the accesories to come out..

How long after the first V-Rod was released did it take for the SE bits to come out?

SE Big Bore works on the Street Rod. Parts are all the same. Harley just doesn't have a flash for the ECM. Will work fine with a RaceTuner.

As far as SE pipes, from what I am hearing, stock R pipes are equivielent to SE 16ga. pipes in performance. V&H needs to come out with new mounting and headers before there will be any SE pipes for the R. Air filter is the same K&N.

Other than the Big Bore kit, pipes, Race Tuner, and air filter, there aren't any other SE parts that I know of. Am I missing any?

the stock pipes on my R sound just like the SE models did on my 02. instead of buying the gils box, i had thought about having the same SE ecm flash done as i had on my 02. as it always ran good, no matter what i did to my pipes.
as hard as ive tried, i havent dragged the mufflers in the mountain curves.

who else has this problem? the kickstand is too short! this causes the bike to lean over too far. its like they put a standard kickstand on a bike that is a couple of inches further from the ground. the return spring is too flimsy and you arent always sure if the stand is all the way down.

my drive belt broke at 107 miles...i'm convinced that was an anomaly.

had one heat shield screw work its way out. runs somewhat rough til it warms up...then it rocks!

i'm with you truperdave...needs a better sidestand....hell, it NEEDS a CENTER
STAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I picked up my new black "R" last thursday. I have 382 miles on it so far. Lost one heat shield crew. I don't like the kick stand very much, it seems to point towards the rear of the bike when down. Giving you the feeling it's gonna roll forward.
And it's got the front end clunk I have read about here.

I bought the tail light kit that makes the rear turn signals work with the tail light, it also came with red lenses which look real good on the black bike. Beware this kit does not work on the street rod. It has a black box the goes under the fender on the A and or B models but there is no room for it on the R. I ended up making an extension harness and putting the black box up on top of the fuel tank. It worked out great but it wasn't the plug and play I had planned on. With the regular filament bulbs in all three lights I would say the brake lights appear to have more than twice the brightness.

So far I love the bike. I love the wide power band. I havn't even been up to where the real power is yet, well except for the one time by accident.

Minor complaints: lost one heat shield screw (I thought I was the only one!); the mirrors mostly show me my shoulders; the seat hurts after 2 hours riding; the bike needs about 2 miles to warm up before running smoothly (no big deal); I'm "getting used" to the side stand; I get slightly less waves on the road from the traditional Harley crowd (so what).

Otherwise, the VRSCR is great and I'm glad I bought it. I look forward to puting on a leather Corbin seat when it becomes available.

Don't know about the other issues, but as far as the mirrors go:bar-end mirror (http://www.jokermachine.com/itemstreet2004.asp?ItemID=237&CategoryID=5&Placeholder=0)

I fully agree with the side stand pointing backwards problem.. I still sometimes grab the bike thinking its falling forward.. Looks to me like the angle on the locking peg is off slightly, another couple of degrees and this wouldn't have been a problem.. :)

I don't have a major problem with the mirrors, so far no front end clunk, haven't lost and heat shield screws yet..

My biggest issue was that my tail pipes on my exhaust were badly scratched when I collected the bike and the triple tree had some corrosion on the underside of the lower clamp.. The exhaust is being fixed and the dealer wants to try and polish out the corrosion.. I had a few minor scratches on the swing arm and the water pump cover but I was able to buff them out..

Have to disagree with this.. I don't think center stands do anything for a bike other than make it look like something used by a pizza delivery guy.. :whack:

I haven't lost any heat shield screws yet, but which type Loctite or whatever would you all recommend using to keep the screws (the exhaust ones!) on board?

Another one here with a heatshield screw missing, hehehe i dont feel so bad now i know its not onny me!! :) Side stand isnt a problem at all and i actually think it looks kinda cool with it pointing more towards the rear of the bike than normal. Clocks are at a stupid angle and i feel i'd have more of a chance in reading my speed if i was maybe 4 foot 7, then again, i'd not touch the floor then!!......mirros:- plain and simple, DANGEROUS!!!! ....and my biggest problem is the rear rocker cover gasket is pooped and is leaking oil over my legs, grrrrr...(its booked in shortly for repair)

There is a mirror stem post extension available in the Parts and Accessories catalog. I put it on a VRSCR. Works like a charm.

I've lost 3 screws on the Street Rod. Odd, since I've had 2 V-Rods and never had a screw even loosen up on either bike. I put Loctite 243 on the shield screws about 300 miles ago. So far, they are all staying tight. I know the heat will eventually destroy the Loctite, but things are okay for now.

Brakes Make noise

Hi ALL!

My problems....

Front brakes pulse over 40 mph.
Lean as hell under 3k.
Cuts out occasionally between 2k-4k (intermittent).
Is my kickstand broke?
No SE exhaust!
And my biggest problem when i hang a deep left turn my foot hits the ground and forces me too upshift..

Where are these infamous heat shield screws?

these bikes run so lean that i dont know how anyone can ride one without a gils box or some other device on them. the fan coming on at the first traffic light from the leaness is a pain too. not to mention frying your thigh.
