: real power for vrscr italian motorbike magazine
claric 05-10-2005, 03:10 AM from "motociclismo" the most important and popular motorcycle magazine in italy.for the "R" they say:105,30hp at the rear wheel and 115,41hp at the engine both at 8500 rpm.max speed 225,3 km. at 8600 rpm.same test for the
v-rod b :105,03 at the rear wheel at 8500rpm max speed 216,8km.
now what about the 120hp? :hmm:
rjrivero 05-10-2005, 03:35 AM Did they post the dyno sheets? Would be interesting to see which standard they used. How did they measure the HP at the motor??

It doesn't really matter. If they tested both bikes in the same way (very likely) and the power they make is the same, then HD is just BSing about the power of the R. Scam.

Remember, Harley talks about how much HP the engine makes. We talk about what the HP is after drive line losses. You can pretty much count on a 10% to 15% driveline loss. The more ineffiecnies in gear box to rear tire, the greater the losses.
So, if stock dyno = 106hp that would work out to approimately 120hp off the engine.
Real world is what I care about, How much HP & TQ are at where the rubber meets the road............ :2cents:

Unless they removed the motor and set it up on an engine dyno with the stock pipes fitted they didn't get a true "engine" HP number. They probably used a driveline loss factor that is nothing but a guess.
Stock VRSCA's and B's measure ~100 BHP to the rear wheel in stock configuration using a proper brake dyno. VRSCR's will measure ~105 BHP at the rear wheel. The A's and B's are rated 115 at the crank, the R's are rated 120 at the crank. It all seems very consistent to me........
RVZoo 05-12-2005, 08:57 PM If the power figures are brake or crank horsepower does not matter. The point is that HD claims the Street Rod makes more power than the V-Rod. But an independent, reliable source found otherwise. In my mind, that is called scam.
You can love HD as much as you want. You can love the Street Rod as much as you want. But closing your eyes to evidence of HD lying to you is just denial.
From an aesthetic point, the bike is probably the most beautiful bike I ever had. It handles pretty good for a whale this size and the power is very decent too, and my comparison point is a 2003 Aprilia RSVR Mille parked pretty close to the Rod, so the bike works well, even if some details are just plain stupid.
But for all the goodness of the bike, quietly getting crap from HD like a love-sick puppy is not my idea of loyalty or brand enthusiasm. It just sucks!
Let’s get real!
But an independent, reliable source found otherwise. In my mind, that is called scam.
Not every bike of the same model will make identical power. or have the same problems. There are mechanical tolerances and there are assembly tolerances. Motojournalists have for years found variations in individual bikes and differences in manufacturers claims versus their data in everything from hp to weight.
To believe every bike will be identical, in my mind, is naive.
