Was cleaning my bike yesterday and had it up on the jack so was able to easily see the under side of the lower triple tree..

I was shocked at what I saw for a bike thats about 6 weeks old..

The scary thing is it has been polised a number of times now which is why the main corrosion is in the corner where my polishing hasn't been as good and not all over the under side..

Going to have to show the dealer and see what they have to say about it..

How far do you live from the coast? Aluminum will not typically corrode that quick unless it is in a harsh environment. Do they use something on the road in Sussex that is corrosive? Your best bet is to buff it out and put a heavy coat of Mothers on it for protection.

If it gets dirty I usually wash it with a sponge and fresh water right away and then when I get a chance I will polish it which is why its strange that it has this in the first place, also by the pitting it says to me that the corrosion has been there for a while.. I mailed the service manager at the dealership the same images and said I would show him next time I was in..

If its not covered by a warranty I will have to take it all apart and clean it up.. I don't want to clean it up in place because I don't want to damage the anodising on the forks..

Maybe if I am taking it all apart I should just look at getting them chromed.. Is there anything special that needs to be done when chroming? I mean like making extra space for bearings etc.. ??

Worry not my brother....I'm sure they'll offer that in chrome in the not too distant future. If you want to have that thing chromed, you're best off sending it to a place that does motorcycle parts. Some chromers won't mask off critical areas......BEWARE.

Had a similar problem with the mounting bracket for my exhaust. The dealership got the bike in right away and I got all new hardware. They told me they have seen a few of these and it was paid for by HD.

Couple of points, you could tape up the fork legs before polishing the yoke and, African Paul uses his bike "all year round" and coats the bike with something during the winter that he swears by "I can't remember what it was though"
Maybe Paul could chime in here?

That dont look good Wipeout...i'll check mine out tomorrow...ive got a couple of issues when i take my bike to the dealer too, 1 being a simple problem of replacing the little spacers/washers that are part of the rear footpeg assembly, they are totally rusted!!! my big problem i got now tho is ive spotted that the front exhaust outlet cover that runs close to the front frame rail has actually been touching the frame rail itself and has been rubbing away at the paint, so i now have a mark of about 1inch long on my frame where the paint has rubbed down to bare metal due to what i believe is a badly fitted exhaust :(

Manbutter !!!! :stilpoke: :stilpoke:

Quite right, I buy it by the gallon at the back door of my local Military Police mess.
However, manbutter is only reccomended for extreme conditions. My preference for daily riding is a light coating of filtered Tit Wax, also in ready supply at the local barracks.
If there are no MP's in your area then your dealer will stock S100 spray which works equally well but is unfortunately less fragrant.
