I thought that my '04 VRSCB would be a good combination of what I had with my '00 Kawi ZRX1100 and my '03 FXSTB Night Train. But after getting a pretty good deal I traded my B model for an R. A black one, picked it up Wednesday morning. Weather was not good so I trailered it home. Took it for a short spin :D Now this is more what I had in mind. Harley soul with a sporting spirit. I think I'm really going to like this bike. Oh yeah, I'm 41.

It's the Bike Harley Needed to Build to keep up with the Hip New MarketOne of the magazines called it a motorcycle for aging sportbike riders. At 53, my body doesn't take to the Ducati 996 like it used to and the Street Rod will now fill that spot in my garage.

I am 38, and I have had way to many bikes. I have raced my whole life until finally hurting myself bad enough that I am uncomfortable at full speed. I bought the R in March, but havent ridden it to much. It is by no means a sport bike, but that is not what I wanted. Personaly I would like to get some better shocks out back, revalving the front end should help a great deal. Overall I am happy with the bike, but I get a lot of (old school Haley) people telling me that I shouldn't have painted Harley Davidson on the side of a Jap bike. It seems like more sport bike or import bike people appreciate the bike and know what it is.

Unfortunately, too many Harley owners think the RoadKing is the only bike worthy of a H-D badge. A large percentage of "typical" HOG member's in my Chapter of 300+, are people who have were out off riding for 20years and when the kids left home, decided to buy a Harley. I've been riding (like many of us) for the last 25 years. I've owned 12 bikes from Hondas to Yahmhas to Kawasakis to Harleys. I had a '00 Fatboy, but it seemed like everyone else did too. I got a '04 VRSCB becuase I liked the black and I wanted somehing different. I was a little suprised at reaction many of the club members gave me. When the StreetRod came out, I flashed back to the fun I had on a Honda CB 900 SuperSport. Had to have one. I know there is not a single bike out there that does everything perfect. And limiting yourself by saying a Softail is the best bike out there or a RoadKing is the best, is at best ignorance.

The StreetRod is not the best at going thru corners or the best cruiser available (regardless what Motorcyclist says) or the best muscle bike. But, it does do all those things well. Thus increasing the type of riding you can enjoy. That is the reason I have one and everyone I ride with can either ride or be left behind. :2cents:

ive owned a dozen harleys. the deuce is still my favorite. ive owned 2 of them.
the R is a great bike and powerful, but the twin cam was a lot easier to work on and a bunch less complicated. it looks like ill have the R for quite a while.

I've said this before. To me, the R is the best of both worlds. I am welcomed to ride with both the "traditional" bikers and the Ricers. The R won't be my last bike, I bought it because I was transferred to Maryland and the country roads out here are absolutely awesome (especially compared to Michigan where I'm from). I don't have to worry about grinding off my pipes or jiffy stand. What I like the best so far is that I am one of the few if not only R owners (for the time being) in Maryland!

And btw I just turned 41...

I am 56, I was 54 when I bought the R. I road a 75 FX for 27 years and just wanted to have something 'new'. I love the R, compared the shovel it is fantastic in the corners, leaves the line like a rocket and stops like I had forgot how to. I know there are faster bikes out there but I have to say I didn't buy it to be the fastest, I just wanted to have a fast Harley. Many of my old friends give me *hit about haveing the rod because it doesn't sound or look like a 'Harley' but when they catch up to me(I slowed down), they have more respect.

I may grow older but I refuse to grow up.

43 (or close enough that it makes no difference). Never remotely considered a Harley until my buddy got a V-ROD (loved the bike, hated the riding position and forward controls). Then I got stupid and bought an R sight unseen. Looks to be a good decision so far. It's a fun enough toy that I'm going to have to sell my R6S.

It's the Bike Harley Needed to Build to keep up with the Hip New Market :kaz: !

Only problem is they didn't take it quite far enough. I like the bike, they just didn't fully commit to the idea and subsequently did not capture the intended market and now it's done.

41 years on the clock for me. Got the Streetrod two years ago. I love the bike. Went to the dealer looking to buy a DX. Took the DX for a ride and loved it. Got back and seen this used 06 R with 1000 miles on it and decided to take it out for the heck of it. As cool as the DX looks and I love the DX. The Streetrod left me with a huge grin when I rode it. I left the dealership with the R and never looked back.

I've got the Streetrod and an Ultra Classic. I love it when my girlfriend comes over to go out on a ride and says "let's take the VROD out instead of the Ultra". She knows how to ride with me and loves to carve out some backroads with the VROD. Ya gotta love that. :ride:

I live on the Florida Panhandle. I've owned my "R" for 3 years and I've only seen one other on the road since I bought it. It was 2 years ago at "Thunder Beach" in Panama City Beach.

That to me is the VERY best thing about owning a Street Rod. NOT ONE V-Twin guy even knows what I'm riding. I've been accused of putting a Harley decal on a Ducati before!!

All I can say to the haters / ignorant is, "SUCK MY EXHAUST! IT'S A HARLEY!"

I'm 31 btw.

My first H-D, too (and maybe only ever), but I just couldn't part with the Monster (M1000S). The extra range on the 'R make it more suitable for the long runs, but the Duc' is too much fun to lose.

60 next January, so I get to be that until the world ends (Dec. 2012, or whenever).
