: Mirror question......
mitch2000 04-09-2005, 01:39 PM Im getting annoyed at just seeing my elbows in the mirrors, looking on the Harley website, i think i quite fancy these.... Harley mirrors (http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442292425&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309050198&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309050198&bmUID=1113067861428&bmLocale=en_US) ...Does anyone know if they are gonna allow me to see behind any better?? Are they actually longer stems than the original 'R' stems??

I've tried about every type of mirror on the market, and still see my shoulders and elbows more than the road behind me!! I just ordered a set of 1 1/4 inch handel bars from Cyclesmiths ($231) that are 35" wide with a 12" pull back and an 8" rise. They should be much better than the funky looking "reduced reach" or even old stock bars that have that crazy bend to them. I have floorboards now and a Sundowner seat, so should be positioned just nicely for improved controll and comfort. The bars are wide enough to make any mirrors work fine, I believe. I'll let you know when I get them on in a week or so; with photos.
Good luck,

[QUOTE=mitch2000]Im getting annoyed at just seeing my elbows in the mirrors,
I was thinking the same thing. Am hoping the dealer has a set in stock when I pick up the bike. If not, these retractable bar-end mirrors might be an option. (thanks to a suggestion on the forum).

WipeOut 04-09-2005, 01:52 PM The only problem with wider bars is a reduced ability to filter through traffic (probably not so much an issue in the US but certainly a big issue in the UK)..
I have been ok with seeing behind me, I just shift my body slightly in the opposite direction to the mirror I am looking into and am able to see enough behind me.. If thats not enough then I physicaly look back..
mitch2000 04-09-2005, 02:07 PM Thats what i been doing wipeout but ive noticed ever since i had this bike, cars seem to wanna follow me so close they could probably hear me do a fart!!...anddd im finding due to lack of rear view in the mirros naturally, when i do, on occasion shift my body over to take a peek im thinking like "woooooo how longs that dude been there"
As for the bar end mirrors, i gotta admit, ive never been keen on them tho everybody else seems to like em....when i had my z1000 i notcied lots of people with em, but still didnt fancy em...Thanks anyway.

Clean V 04-11-2005, 03:24 PM I Bought Iemigo #20-21705 Mirrow from JC Whitney for $24.98. They are about 11/2" longer and solved the problem of only seeing next to you and not behind you.

Daniii 04-11-2005, 05:32 PM The Kuryakin turn signal mirrirs are convex, and plenty wide.

mjw930 04-11-2005, 08:18 PM You can also get the same Kuryakyn mirror without the turn signals but with the convex glass. The convex glass makes a big difference.

Nick,
Based on your recommendation, I got a set of the mirrors. I got them today. They were very easy to modify to the Street-Rod. I'm impressed with them so far. I guess my only concern will be whether they are sturdy enough to withstand the inevitable bumps that they will get when parked and some yahoo just has to squeeze his big butt between the bikes. Getting the stock mirrors off sure cleaned up the looks of the bike. It looks good with the low bars and nothing sticking up high. Thanks for your tip on the mirrors.
Steve
Steve, No problem I agree, it really cleans up the look. As far as the sturdy factor they are pretty damn tuff, wait till you take it up to speed and notice the don't vibrate, fold in, etc... For the price I dont worry about them.
I always hope that the guy who tries to squeeze through does break one off, and it gets stuck in his a$$ and he not only has to pay, but explain to the doctor how it got there... JK
