For the R yet?

Seats (lowering seats),pipes,fenders, etc..... ???

As I keep reading threads and going to different retailers (and site links) I seem to get only V-rod specific stuff.

Not having the bike yet ,and not knowing what will be interchangable with the V-rod, I am just a bit curious at the moment.

My main Concern is about the height of this bike. I am 5'6" tall.... The V-rods I have sat on seemed perfect, my feet were planted flat on the floor. But this bike is what 4" taller ??

Will I be ok? (no I haven't sat on or seen an R yet ......the dealer has yet to get one in)

Like I said ,I am just trying to look ahead

Thanks,
jon

I am 5' 10" and I sat on a "R" and my feet just touched the floor.

I'm 5'8" and I could barely flat-foot it. :(

Sooooo, Does that mean I am screwed?

Maybe I should talk to the Dealer about this before I get the bike?

No, I'm sure you can lower it with different shocks and a different seat. But I think you oughta sit on one and figure out what it will cost to lower it before you order one!

I already did order one. This was never brought to my attention when discussing the new design at the dealer. I was told about all the improvements in handling, braking, & Cornering ...... but nothing about my height being a potential problem.

Not to mention, The LAST thing I need os to drop a bunch more moneys on top of the intial purchase. OUCH my wallet.

Now I am starting to get discouraged

one of the reasons the 'B' seat is higher is because the fuel tank under the seat is larger and therefore taller. You could lower the suspension, Harley makes kits for that(shorter shocks and front suspension lowering), but, that brings up other issues such as ground clearance on turns etc...

Your inseam is more important than your height. 29-30 inches and boots with decent soles should get you there. As Val said you can also lower it. HD doesn't have the shocks you'll need yet so you'll have to look to the aftermarket. You may be able to push the forks up thru the trees to lower the front. Good luck.

sorry, I meant the 'R' model has a bigger gas tank.

Yah, I understand.

The WHOLE point of purchasing the R was for the improved characteristics..... Lowering it that much would defeat the purpose

I don't think ground clearance will be an issue at all with the R.

RI06SCR, DON'T be discouraged yet! When you get it, it might fit you just fine. Kaz's Martha is happy with hers, I believe. And, we all know you're going to be modding everything on it eventually anyway, so lowering it and/or replacing the seat is only a first step!

I do not think lowering the bike 1-2 inches will make much difference in handling :2cents:
I am sure they will also offer lower seats, like they do for the B's and A's

I'm 6' and I thought it was a tall bike. The other thing I didn't like was my ankles and shins banging into the foot pegs when my feet were the ground. I didn't like it at all. Just my thoughts though...

The "R" is quite high but I have to wonder, the seat height on the "R" is slightly lower then many sport bikes and shorter guys don't seem to have a problem riding those..
Its just a case of learning where to place you left leg when you come to a stop.. I usually keep my right leg on the peg holding the brake when I am stopped and balance the bike with my left leg, I am about 5'11" with about a 32" inseam and I am easily flat footed when stopped at the lights..
I think the problem is that most people are going into the dealer sitting on the bike and trying to put both feet down which may have them up on their toes a little but if you keep your right foot up you can get you left leg down easily and if needed you can slide over to the left a little to get you foot down properly.. :thumb:

On the comment about your shins bashing the pegs, you will only do this once or twice till you learn where the pegs are, then you can choose if you are more comfortable putting your leg down in front of or behind or next to the peg when you come to a stop the next time..

Remember, most of the time you want to be riding with your feet up on the pegs not stoped with your feet on the ground so if you have to do some reajustment when you come to a stop to get you feet down for those short periods then just do that, it will be well worth it for the awesome ride.. :ride:

I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam and mounted one very comfortably. From the cockpit position, looking down on the inverted forks, it's an impressive view....OH I wish I was a millionaire......I'd love to add one of these to the Garage...

Couldn't agree more. When my wife and I went to the dealer and sat on the bike I almost freeked out the way the pegs were hitting my shins. After riding the bike twice it's a non-issue. You just naturally learn to put your feet where your not banging your shins. Also the pegs easily fold backwards so if you put your feet down in front of he pegs and want to sit more flatfooted you can use your calves to partially retract the pegs. The seat height of the R might be high for a HD but it is relatively low for motorcycles in general. My BMW R with the modified seat is about 31.5 or 32.0 high. I make do just fine with my 30" inseam. :biker:

From looking at the seat there's at least 1" of foam that can come out and about 1/2" on each side to make it a bit narrower. These mods are done all the time in the sport bike world and any decent upholstery shop can make it happen. In fact, if you ditch the soft foam and go with closed cell foam you can probably take almost 2 inches out of the set.

Just be aware that will also cause you more leg bend to the pegs since you will be sitting lower.

I'm sure that there will be a number of after market seats within the next year. Corbin for sure and maybe we can convince Sergent Seats to make one (they make GREAT seats for BMW's and sport bikes). Check out this link to see what Sargent can do in a custom seat: http://www.sargentcycle.com/custserv.htm

Im 5'11'' and 32" inside leg and can touch fairly comfortabley, that is until i come to lunk the thing backwards whilst sitting on the bike due to its weight...ive had taller bikes but they all seemed to have narrower seats so therefore didn't actually feel so tall....and with all my other bikes being much lighter the height was never an issue anyway...so the onny thing i'd point out is, whilst you may just touch the floor tip toes, see how well you can move the bike backwards....of course you can always get off it and walk it backwards.
