Calling all R owners,
I spoke with Mike at Corbin seats about development of seats and bags for the R model. I don't have mine yet or I'd take his offer, anyone interested??
Mike @ corbin....At this time we are attempting to borrow a streetrod to start developement
of several products. Since we need the bike in Hollister California for a
time depending on what we plan to develope it can be difficult. If you know
of someone who can loan one to us they would get the first run of the
product as compensation. Thanks for your interest in Corbin. Feel free to
contact me with any further questions or if you can help us out.

I also contacted supertrapp to see when they will have thier V-5 2 into 1 system modified to accomodate the R. No reply yet. I've got to do something to kill some time, I won't be getting mine til the end of the summer.

I split this out of the other thread so that it could get more attention.

VRTURK,

Sorry, can't help with providing a bike but would like to offer a suggestion for a seat characteristic if you know who to pass it on to..

The VRSCR really pulls really hard but there is very little seat "behind" you giving horizintal support so if you are accelerating hard and hit a bump or dip in the road that makes you a little light on the seat it feels like you are going to slide right off the back of the bike and it continues to accelerate away from you..

What would be nice is a seat that maybe dropped the rider 1/2" to 1" lower into the seat (if there is space and it didn't compromise comfort) or built up the back a little to give more horizintal support during hard acceleration.. Of course dropping the seat hight would be preferable to building up the back becasue a) it would keep the lines of the bike in tact and b) it would make it easier to ride for those with shorter legs..

Anyway thats just my suggestion..

Max,
Thanks for splitting the thread.

Wipeout,
I asked them if they'd drop the seat a bit. The email address for design requests is : daytona13@mike-corbin.com

Just got the 1K service done on my bike today and switched to Syn 3 oil.

Boy, the pipe out of the rear cylinder gets hot! When sitting at a traffic light you can feel the heat on your right leg/knee, even with chaps on. I can't imagine what it will be like in the middle of summer. My Buell Firebolt put out a lot of heat also. Sometimes I sat at the traffic lights with my right foot on the peg to keep my leg as far from the pipe as possible. So far, that's my only negative feelings about the bike.

ST used my bike for a pattern to come up with the R version of the 5" system. They came out to the dealer and measured my bike So far however, they're not owning up to having anything on the "drawing board". I will keep you posted.

I absolutely agree with you. During hard accelerations my ass feels like its going south on me! I think the original seat design is the worst aspect of the bike.

Yea, a little more of a "lip" behind you to hold you in place would be great.. I was thinking about it and I actually wouldn't want the seat height lowered any cos it would make my legs bend even more and may make it uncomfortable..

If you look at the Street Rod as a sport touring bike, the seat is about right. You want to be able to sit upright for those long stretches of straight highway and be able to slide back further for a more laid out position when you get to the twisty sections. Having a seat with a more pronounced bucket reduces your options. I have even found that late in the day, I can back up on the passenger seat and relax on a new set of butt muscles. After riding 4600 miles on a Buell Firebolt you find all kinds of sitting positions to add a few more miles to your day, IMHO.

I bought a Sundowner HD seat to replace stock. It was not much better. I took the cover off by removing the staples. I then took a die grinder and took about 1" foam from rear portion of the seat. This is the part of the seat that sweeps up and hold you from sliding rearward when making fast starts. I also removed or lowered the rear part just in front of the above mentioned area. It keeps my nuts off the tank and does not push you foward. It really adds to the confort. I used 1/4" staples and a little head liner spray glue to re-attach seat cover.

I also tried the Sundowner seat - for just one day. Took it back to the dealer and got the stock seat back. The Sundowner forced me to sit too far forward and wasn't anymore comfortable than the stock seat.

I'll wait for Corbin to come out with a seat for the R. I had one of their seats on a Buell X1 that felt hard as a rock, but you could ride all day long and it wasn't your butt that made you stop for the day.

You guys might want to try Sargent Cycle http://www.sargentcycle.com/

They do customs all the time and they might be interested in making a seat if they can splash a mold off your stock seat bottom.
